Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Intenal Error 500 Multiple Components Help

This has driven me mad. How do I add two components to a5w page without getting an error message I can't understand. Thanks in adance.

Re: Intenal Error 500 Multiple Components Help

    Jonathan

Long time since we've seen you. Welcome back.

What is the message that you get?

Either retype it in a messageboard reply or use the print screen button and capture the image of the message box. Then paste into mspaint and save as an image and attach to a reply.

The simplest way for me to add multiple components to a page is to open the page in wysiwyg mode and use the 'insert component' option on the tool bar.

How are you trying to add components?

Re: Intenal Error 500 Multiple Components Help

Nice of youto welcome me back! I am just inserting components into a5w sheet called "start". I want a nav bar and a grid. Both work on their own aswell as other components. Adding two the the page has not worked. I have spent two days experimenting. No Luck.

Here is an error message I get...

      500 Internal Server Error
      "Script Error
      Error:Script: /Start.a5w line:69
      ? ; ?x_TabbedGridLinker.TabbedGridLinker.Output.Body.CompleteHtml ;?Not found
      x_TabbedGridLinker not found."

Whatever two components out of about 7 I get this.

I look forward to help. Cheers Jon

        Let's try another way.

Edit the tabbedGridLinker component and use the 'save page' option on the icon bar to make a page called 'test'

Verify that the 'test' page works.

Then edit the 'test' page and use insert component to add in the nav bar.

        Verify. -should work....

What version of Alpha and build are you on?

            A5v10 or previous?

Also, please attach the test.a5w code so we can see what went wrong.

As far as your last paragraph, something got lost in the translation and I don't understand it.

ps - I'll be off line for awhile, so perhaps someone else can pick this up.

The code need for the nav component is not getting into the page.

Are you using the method that I described before and is shown in the attached image?

                        Jonathan

You realize that this is a peer supported message board. Unless the posting person's information says that they are an Alpha employee, you are talking with other developers that use the software just like you do.

Some do it as a hobby and others do it while filling in with their paying job. The message board is not Alpha customer service. You'll need to contact them directly via the information on the Alpha website.

You did send the project via email and I've reviewed it. I see exactly what you are facing and tried a couple of things to avoid it, but haven't found a solution. Most frustrating.

On the other hand, I did look at what you are working towards and suggest that you use v10 instead of v9. The options in v10 will build a much simpler interface for you to build on. I've learned that one from experience...

I've verified in v10 that the process that we are using is working. I made that page you've been working on in the appropriate clicks - took about 20 seconds.

There are 2 important reasons for you to consider v10.

                        1. The new features of the grid have made my development of membership and related details much easier. (row expander is the new feature)

                        2. You've found a bug in version 9 and there will be no additional fixes for version 9. You'll need to find a work around to process this in version 9.

You can review the new features of version 10 and examples of what others have done with it for free by looking a videos at this link or by using the 30 day trial of v10.

Sorry to pass you off to a different version, but that is truly the best advice that I can offer you. Please note that reason #1 is very important to increasing your productivity.
