Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Controling Movement in an embeded browse

    I have aform with an embeded browse (Not a Set) and when the user scrolls down past the last record the browse moves to the next page of records and the cursor is located in the middle of the browse. This is better than in V8 when it ended up in the last record in the newly displayed browse. Is there a way to make the record focus end up an the top of the browse when a user scrolls past the last record. Many clients complain about this because if they don't see it and are enter many entries thyey end up entering data into the wrong field. Other programs that I and others hasv used over the past few yesr always end un on the correct record every time when moveing down a browse.

    There have been a few threads in the last few years dealing with this or a very similar issue. Search all versions of A5 desktop (Advanced Search) using "top row" or the like. I'll try as well but don't have the time right now.

    I found this on a post by Dave Keller in V9 which might give you some ideas. You will need to substitute your names, etc.

    The following fixed my problem.
    Form - OnActive I posted the following code:
    WOTechnician:brwTechTime.Fetch_First()
    WOTechnician:brwTechTime.Activate()
    WOTechnician:brwTechTime.Resynch()

    Works Great!

          I believe he means the Form Event - OnActivate (see pic). However, I tried it and in my hands it doesn't work.

            Fred,

            I could not find an event or trigger that lets us know we are going off the bottom of the browse and thereby respond to it.

            However v10 does have a new browse method we can play with.

            Not exactly what you asked for but may be acceptable.

            In the OnRowChange event for the browse place the following. This will cause the currently active record to be displayed in the specified row. I chose 1 so the active record will always be at the top. Change the recipe to suit your taste buds.
            Code:
            'change browse1 to your browse name
            browse1.Scroll_Current_Row(1)
            Or for a bit of fun this code will cause the active row to be at the top if you are scrolling down and at the bottom if you are scrolling up.
            Code:
            dim tc as P
            dim shared lastRow as N
            dim shared thisrow as N

            tc = table.current()
            lastRow = thisrow
            thisrow = tc.LogicalRecord_Get()
            if thisrow > lastRow then
                browse1.Scroll_Current_Row(1)
            Else
                'change the '6' to the number of rows in the browse
                browse1.Scroll_Current_Row(6)
            end if
            Food for thought at least.
