Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Inverted sort on time

    Hi,
    I am trying to do a inverted sort on a embedded browser with date, time.
    They are caludated fields in my table, Date as a date field = Date() and Time1 as a time field = now(). Date works fine but the time dosen,t. I tried using invert(cshorttime(Time1)), but that didn't work. I have the time formated in the browser as HH:MM AM.

    Thanks

    Re: Inverted sort on time

    The help indicates

    Sortable Time Value
    C
    CDATE( Time_Variable ) + TIME("hms", Time_Variable )
    and

    Sortable Short Time
    C
    TIME("hms", Time_Variable )
    There can be only one.

      If Time field =now(), there is nothing to sort there. They all equal now().
      P.S.:
      Unless your computer is capable of nano-seconds calculations, they will all be the same, or almost the same.

        Re: Inverted sort on time

        All time fields are stamped with now() in the time1 (field rules). First should I use a shorttime or time. When I use shortime and give a calulated rule as now() I get a error.

        Thanks

          Use

          convert_type(now(),"Y")

              Have the same problem with the default form for the set? If not you may have a problem with your form. Seems to work for the sample I tested.

              I'm thinking now that you mean that the browse doesn't sync to the new record by placing it at the top of the browse and selecting it. If you know that you will at most have say about 10 child records, code the onsave event of the browse

              Code:
              for i = 1 to 15
                  [COLOR="Red"]browse1[/COLOR].fetch_prev()
              next i
              Use the actual browse object name.

                This isn't a response to the exact question but I think it's very pertinent to what you are doing.

                You mentioned in the first post that you are using calculated fields. This is probably NOT the thing to do. See this post and also this one.

                  Re: Inverted sort on time

                  Thank you Cal and stan for your input, I will change them to non-cal fields and try it.

                  The other problem I have is the way the browser display's after entering a new record. I have attached 2 jpg files. Open form is the way the browser looks when opening the form. The browser is ordered by date and time, which is what I want. After a add a new record, (attachement after record) the scroll bar goes to the first record of the bottom of the browser. How can I make it display like the openform browser attachement which the scroll bar is at the last record?

                  Thanks

                    Re: Inverted sort on time

                    in the browse onsave event try
                    browse1.resynch() 'resynch() in V10 works better for me than in any other version
                    browse1.fetch_first()

                    although, for the record, I think this approach will prove to be troublesome, and the new record row will still be at the bottom of the browse.

                      Martin,

                      This dosen't work, The browser is set for read only because all actions will be done by a companion form.

                      Thanks
