Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Scrolling completely useless

Thanks to everyone for the input. To clarify my original post a little...I discovered that when scrolling, the cursor jumps up to the middle of the page and based on replies received I see that this is just the way Alpha does it now. Strange, but I can live with it. The real problem I was having was that I could not scroll at all. The set I was trying to scroll had 3 tables. I was able to redesign the set where I only had to use 2 tables. That worked. Of course, the cursor still jumps to the middle. Is there some reason that Alpha doesn't just scroll like most every other Windows program? It would be so much friendlier for users if it worked like most other programs. I have never liked Alpha's scrolling method, but it's getting worse instead of better. That said, Alpha is an amazing product and I'm sure will continue to improve over time. Thanks again to all who replied. I have posted questions several times and have always been amazed at the responses received.

      Don,
In addition to the new browse method in v10.5 that Peter mentions in post 4 above there is also a new to v10 browse method that seems very similar. See this thread, post 6. There are a couple of suggested usages.

        Don,

I sent a bug report on some issues realted to this. Alphasports only has sets with a single 1-many link, so that is all that has been fixed currently.

For a single 1-many, if you scrolled down from the first record, the record pointer jumped to the first record of the 2nd parent, which miht not be the next record in the browse. This is fixed.

Also if you scrolled to the "new record" line, it did not work correctly - not that you would want to allow that in the first place.

For multiple 1-many children in the set I have not heard about fixes. For me, after a find by key the record pointer was lost and scrolling did not work.

        Bill.

Bill, I think we will all now need to clarify which version / build of version 10 we are discussing, given the release of the 10.5 RC.

Yes, this was 10.5 since the start of this thread.

Scrolling a table (not a set) seems to work, although it is a poor method. The cursor jumps to the middle of the screen. However, when scrolling UP, the cursor stays on top (like you would expect it too). IS this a bug in V10. I certainly hope it's not a feature. For now, I have no idea on how to complete my application as I cannot scroll a set. Strangely, I CAN scroll this same set if I put it into an embedded browse, however, I need to include some calculated fields in the records and I can't see anyway to do that in an embedded browse. Any ideas?
I don't know if this would help your probem, but our moaing and groaing did prompt me to go back and look at my problem again and was able to figure out what didn't work and what does for me.

I think Tom's question still needs to be addressed.

Bill you may be discussing 10.5 but the originator of the thread, Don McElroy only stated that he was using version 10...see post 1. No where does he mention that he is using anything else....

I think I did address what I was using. Any fixes will only be in the most recent build (even though this one is still beta).

More to the point... v10 (or the new browse) has difficultiy scrolling with multiple 1-many children in a standalone browse, at least vs. the way that the old browse handles them. Alpha has fixed several issues as this thread has progressed. It seems we will retain some ability to have multiple 1-many children in a named broswe. There may be some changes in the way that default browses are presented.

                  Bill.

Had some similar issues with v.11. (Including strange cursor jumping) ~ I thought it would be worthwhile to provide a link here.

I believe there is an outstanding/long time issue with the browse, particularly when browses are based on sets (not tables) the browse "Parent Only Record" setting is involved.....
