Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Printer not activted; error code -41

    HI all,

I have searched previous threads on this and tried many methods suggested including setting Amyuni to Port = NUL, reinstalling Amyuni etc. I have still unable to print either directly or via print preview. I also cannot save as PDF or Excel.

Then I saw this in Alpha Wiki help:
Version 10 includes a new version of the Alpha Five Printer driver. The PDF Printer in V9 does not work on Windows 7 and certain 64 bit operating systems, such as Windows Server 2003. The Printers window in the Control Panel will show the printer name as 'AlphaFivePrinverV4' (indicating that it is based on V4 of the Amyuni Printer Driver).

I am using Windows Vista 64bit. Development is only on desktop. not using webserver. Does this now mean that I need to go and find a Vista 32bit or XP version so that I can print reports?

Anyone else have any ideas? Will v10.5 solve this issue?

    Many thanks!

Maybe you could use a compatibility mode for Alpha? Not certain if it would work, but might.

Re: Printer not activted; error code -41

MikeC, first of all, THANK YOU for trying to help. I appreciate it. This problem had tearing my hair out.

This morning, I found a solution that worked for my case. No need to mess around with printer ports or registry keys.

For anyone else having a similar Amyuni problem on Vista64, here is the link,

For convenience, I post it below:
Printer not activated, error code -20
The error message is telling you that somehow the Amyuni Printer Driver (called 'AlphaFivePrinterV4' in the Printers folder) is not properly installed.

The usual way to fix this is:

      1. Go to the printers folder and delete 'AlphaFivePrinterV4'
      2. Temporarily turn off UAC on your machine.
      3. Re-install A5
      4. That should reinstall the AlphaFivePrinterV4
      5. Do you see AlphaFivePrinterV4 in your Printers folder?
      6. Try PDF printing again
      7. Re-enable UAC

Re: Printer not activted; error code -41

I recently run into a similar problem: printer not activted: error code -20. Turning of UAC (User Account Control) did solve the problem but also compromised my security settings. Found a better solution on:

I had to edit the register manually and change the security settings for the AlphaFivePrinter4. The printer is located in the registry under: HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\Software. Hope it helps!
