Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Browser Searches Stopped Working???

Very Strange I am getting an error from a browser selection when I try to select a work order. I can launch the form directly, run a query genie, search by woid and it works just fine. It just seems to be when I use a browser. It will search about 50% through the records and I receive the following messagebox:
No records in query. Its strange because I can see the work order record listed in the browser window but when I try to select (Open Form based on query where woid = BROWSE1:Woid. This seems to now occur in multiple forms that have browsers.
It appears the table and indexes are just fine as I can conduct accurate searches outside of a browser select. This has always worked in the past so I am at a complete loss

Open the form/browse in design mode and see if there is filter.

I've found that when using a base query and then changing from view to design the filter will 'stick' / 'stay'

If you eliminate the filter on the object, all will work as expected.

      Hi Al,

You were right on the money! I opened my form in design mode and found that a filter had curiously populated itself in the form properties section. I deleted the filter and my problem is solved. Thanks very much for your help.

      Best Wishes,
      Dave

FWIW....I have seen this as well. It was quite confusing at the time. It seemed to occur for me when I would try to go into Design mode while I was viewing the form (not in design mode). If I choose Design while the form was closed and I was just in Control Panel...it never happened.

          Just a FYI....

Inversely, what also has happened (not reproducible on demand) is that form property filters/order will disappear at times....I have all but discontinued use of these as a result in some cases as it caused unresolvable issues when it would happen. It very well could have been something I did, but the easiest cure was to just use my own query filter/order instead of the form's.

            Re: Browser Searches Stopped Working???

I was just fixing to pull all my hair out when I found this post. Thank you all very much. Here is what I have found as one of the possible causes. When opening a form to edit (from a browse), if you go into edit mode from that form, it places this in the filter/order field of form properties, I am assuming so when you run the form again, it will open up with the same record loaded.

            Code:
            between(recno(),1,1)
However, if you save the form before running/closing it, that filter will be saved with the form and therefore will only open from browse when that record is selected.
A question might be, is there code to place in the onexit/canexit event of the form to clear the filter is this instance?
Tried this, but doesn't seem to clear it.
            Code:
            topparent.BaseQueryRun("","")
            Thanks.
