Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Button on Browse ?

    Hi All,

I have attached a small sample of my app. See form, Family.

I have a button on a browse that shows a red spot. When pressed, it should become green and if green when pressed, should become red again.

I just cant get it to work how I want.

    Your suggestions please.

    All help greatly appreciated.

    Re: Button on Browse ?

    Hi Keith,

On your browse, Happy is from the Guardian Table... is that right? Should it not be from the Children table, since that's where the other browse info is from?

In your buttonclick event for Happy I would put the following...

    Select Case
    Case Family:browse1:happy.VALUE = .T.
    Family:browse1:happy.VALUE = .F.
    Case Family:browse1:happy.VALUE = .F.
    Family:browse1:happy.VALUE = .T.
    end select

This gives you the results you want with the button colour.

      Hi David,

      Thanks for your reply.

The Happy field is in the Children table. I should have deleted the one from the guardian table.

Unfortunately I cant get your code to make the buttons change colour.

In you sample, the browse has three columns with fields C_id and name from the children table and happy from the guardians table.

Or should the column happy be from the children table also.

If you change the column happy to the children's table happy then the following code in the events will change the red button to green button on the row that it is clicked but not the other rows. You could have a red button then two green buttons and then a red button and if you click them they would change to the alternate color.

        Code:
        if parentform:browse1.happy.value=.t. then
            parentform:browse1.happy.value=.f.
        else
        	parentform:browse1.happy.value=.t.
        end if
        parentform.refresh_fields()
        parentform.refresh_layout()
Is this what you are trying to do?

Odd... cut and pasted from your database and it worked here. Oh well, you got it working anyway - mainly the wrong field in place

              Hi Guys,

Thanks for the help given so far.

Yes I know I said I got it working but, as these things start out they seem so simple until you realise the picture is not exactly as you presented it.
On your browse, Happy is from the Guardian Table... is that right? Should it not be from the Children table, since that's where the other browse info is from?
              and
Or should the column happy be from the children table also.
In my case the set for printing is based on a 1:1 set. The child table is a temp table as a result of a Summarise operation. This of cause gets written over each time the op is run. Hence the reason for the Happy field being in the Parent table.

Since the set is 1:1, would it help me to change the set order to make this work?
              Regards

                Keith

I just looked at your sample again. There is a set called family with a child table called children and it is a 1 to many relationship - not a 1:1

I would have thought that is what is was even if the children table is a temp table that gets overwritten each time.

If it is a 1:1 when printing, and 1:M when viewing and updating, what is printed for guardian:happy.value in the report and how does the changing the color and logical field in the browse affect the parent table?

I guess I am now a little confused.

                Tom

If you are using a 1:1 in the browse, (parentform:happy is the field in the browse) then when you change any one button on any row of the browse it will change all the rows and the value of both the browse happy and the parentform happy.

                  Hi Tom,
I guess I am now a little confused.
And so was I until I saw the light.

As I cant use the browse the way I intended, I created a new field in the parent table and use an update op to set that field with the value. I can now work on a single table and the buttons work too.

The bottom line is I now use a single table instead of a set.

Thanks again for ALL your help.
