Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Repaint problems ?

    Please find attached Form1.jpg

    The super control navigation - on top -(VCR Mode) displays a blue box until the mouse is run over each control. I've used the repaint(), but to no avail. Any ideas why this may occur?

    Secondly, I have a child table on the form (Pieces - lower right hand corner as well as delivery). When a checkbox is selected upon enter mode checkbox does not display what is selected. However, if you leave the record and go back to it, the field displays whatever was selected upon entry. When the record is in update mode it works properly.

    Referential integrity (cascade/delete) is effective on all tables from the parent down.

    What am I overlooking here? Any advice is appreciated.

    Re: Repaint problems ?

    Hi Larry,

    If you could post a sample of your app here it would be easier to diagnose your problem.

    Copy your app to a new folder, from there delete personal data and zip it up.

      Re: Repaint problems ?

      Keith,

      Thanks for the reply. I ended up changing my set to have fewer tables so that problem will be taken care of.

      As far as the super control (navigation) , I just took it off and will address these design elements after I finish the programming.

      However, in the top center you see the blue rectangle. That is how the navigation control appears when the form is loaded. If you take your mouse and "fly" over the individual controls, they appear... Hmmmm..... I will probably use the individual "goto next record", etc. when programming is finished.

      Again, thanks for the reply.

        Re: Repaint problems ?

        Hey,
        It is hard to exactly what might be causing your problem on this form but I think the super control is not working because you made a change to a visual property such as the font size or boarder style and then stretched it out too much or shrunk it to fit the form better (can you take a picture of the set in design mode and a picture of the set the form is based on ). Possibly might be an issue with the layers on the form. Try selecting the super control and then at the top tool bar select "Arrange->Bring to Front" , or the values that are supposed to appear cannot be calculated To test this simply delete the super control, then add a new one and add the action you want the super control to perform when it's used and then select "Arrange->bring to front" while the super control is selected.

        As for your other problem I am not sure I understand, a little to vague...but try instead of repaint use...

        Code:
        parentform.refresh()

        'or

        parentform.refresh_layout()

        'or
        'use refresh and not repaint
        parentform:[I]NameOFSuperControl[/I].refresh()

        'or
        'for the data not refreshing try a resync and then a refresh

        parentform.resync()
        parentform.refresh_layout()
        parentform.refresh()

        'you might want to try adding
        parentform.commit()
        'above any of the code above so the data is saved on the form
        'and then it is refreshed/repainted etc...
        'GOOD LUCK!
        give some of those a try.

          Re: Repaint problems ?

          Appreciate the reply.

          Re: The super control.. Tried that.. I reported it as a bug. I decided on a different set build that is simpler so I do not have those problems. I did however utilize those same suggestions you made to no avail.

          Best,

            Re: Repaint problems ?

            The xdialog supercontrol has a repaint issue as well (believe it happens in v10 too)The result looks just like the screen shot but at a different location is all---the {transparent} is supposed to let the form color show but at the bottom of an xdialog, between the "body" and the buttons, it will many times show what is Under the form (desktop or a form). I did not report this as I was able to utilize form buttons to control the xdialog output and so was a non-issue for me....and is being used in v9 so pointless.
