Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    help in terminating a "while" routine

    hi to all,

    im missing something with this code.

    Code:
    dim txtable as p
    txtable = table.current()
    txtable.fetch_first()

    while .not. txtable.fetch_eof()
    	PURCHASES.value = PURCHASED_TOT.value
    	SALES.value = SALES_TOT.value
    	QTY_OH.value = PURCHASES.value - SALES.value

    	topparent.commit()

    	:process_data.Fetch_Next()

    end while

    ui_msg_box("TLCSYS", "Processing comleted...",UI_INFORMATION_SYMBOL+UI_OK)
    when it fetches eof() it doesnt stop. instead, it is creating blank records after the last record.

    thanks ia

    forgot to attach the screen shot of the form.

    try changing

    Code:
     :process_data.Fetch_Next()

    to

    Code:
     txtable.fetch_next()

        tom,

        thanks for the reply...

        before, i use that code... but, i noticed that the record number below the form does not move.. it flashes but always shows record 1. and so i thought that i am running the code on the form level and not the table level.

        that works well not until the record reached eof. it creates a blank record and continue infinitely..

        what do you think?

        tnx

          Re: help in terminating a "while" routine

          Your code doesn't do anything..
          It's telling alpha:
          go to the first record
          apple=orange '(PURCHASES.value = PURCHASED_TOT.value)
          go to next record
          when you get to the end of file
          save a record

          You need to put the table in enter or change mode.

            gabriel,

            tnx for the reply.
            i am processing the data on form level. i thought that it is much easier to do it vs at table level because i wont be calculating the sum the purchases and sales thru codes. i just fetch the value of the calculated fields

            Code:
            PURCHASED_TOT = total(purdet->Qty,GRP->products,GRP->purdet)
            SALES_TOT = total(invdet->Qty,GRP->products,GRP->invdet)
            and do a little math and save it.

            i found out that using form level, you will never reach eof in alpha.

            see attached

              Re: help in terminating a "while" routine

              take the actual name of the table (maybe "tax_table")
              Code:
              parentform.commit() 'be sure all records are not in edit mode
              t=table.open("tax_tabel")
              t.fetch_first()
              while .not. t.fetch_eof()
              [COLOR=blue]     t.change_begin()[/COLOR]
                        t.PURCHASES=t.PURCHASED_TOT
                        t.SALES=t.SALES_TOT
                        t.QTY_OH=t.PURCHASES - t.SALES
              [COLOR=blue]     t.change_end()
                   t.Fetch_Next()[/COLOR]
              end while
              t.close()
              this will work so long as all fields are table fields, and not form only calculated fields

                  if you are using form level calculated fields, then you could use your current code but try this

                  while .not. parentform:tables.put the actual table name here.fetch_eof()
                  like
                  while .not. parentform:tables.tax_table.fetch_eof()

                    Re: help in terminating a "while" routine

                    You are doing at the table level. You made a pointer to the table when you used table.current().
                    Sounds to me like you are doing alpha's work. You probably need a calc field instead of this script.

                      I think what Francis is trying to do is this:
                      While in a record at the topparent, he/she wants to calculate a value from the child table (though it looks like the topparent) using that script then scroll to the next record in the topparent.

                        That very well may be the case - but I suspect he is using form level calculated fields, either for the child or parent if no child - the main problem is that forms and browses don't have a "fetch_eof" - but my last idea may account for that - have to test.

                          martin,

                          purchased_tot and sales_tot are calculated values..
                          can we convert these two expressions into tablesum()?(if this is the appropriate function for the convertion)

                          Code:
                          PURCHASED_TOT = total(purdet->Qty,GRP->products,GRP->purdet)
                          SALES_TOT = total(invdet->Qty,GRP->products,GRP->invdet)

                            Yes he is using form level calc field, I am assuming in the toparent.
                            Obviously, further clarification is needed.

                              If you use my original script, then yes, you would use tablesum()

                              but just for the fun of it try my line where I put

                              while .not. parentform:tables.parent table name here.fetch_eof()
                              (note:this presumes the calculated fields are all up-to-date)

                              otherwise, I think my original script with tablesum() would be necessary
