Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Merging two Report Codes into a new Report - Not output Related

    Hello,

Can anyone tell me if it possible to merge two different reports into a single new report.

I.E., I have a report called Test A and a report called Test B. When I run report Test A, it generates the report that has specific pieces of data with some special calculations, the same goes for report Test B, it has some of the same information but additional data and unique calculations for its report. I want to combine the report generation reports for A and B in to a new report called Test C which when run will generate a report with pieces of data from A and B which includes some of the calculations from A and B.

    I hope this makes sense.

Thanks for any advice or help.

    Ben

    Hi Ben,

I am pretty sure you cannot. You can do a copy(report) to a table or set.

A work around might be, do a Save As for one of the reports you choose to be appropriate and call it Report C. Then copy the calculated fields from the other report, to word pad or such. Then add the calculated fields from work pad, to report "C", and make it look the way you need to.

I have some situations like that. The only way to do what you want, is to save each report as a pdf file, then do a pdf append command and then display the new pdf file.

I've been using Mikes approach for several years now - in some cases I may have maybe 15 different reports glued together as one report, with an explanatory cover page - using PDF. One of the advantages of this approach is that each report has its own page numbering. Which is the way I got started using it.

Actually what I'm wanting to do is merge the Report codes from A & B into Report C so that when Report C is run, it combines info from Report A & Report B into a new output for Report C.

Does this make sense? I'm not looking to combine output, but to combine the form and code that actually generates the report output.

            Thanks,

            Ben

Ben, if only the "3rd report" makes any difference, I think I would write the data for report A to a file and then write the data for report B to the file, and then write report C based on the data in the file

Ben, are the reports on the same table/set? if so, you can do a subreport.

I do this with a buyers order report built on a set where a lot of data is included and a sub report for trade cars.

I have made reports where a sub report report was made within a report that just gave different answers.
