passing array to function

I'm having a hard time getting an array passed to a function. This is pseudo code showing how I have it arranged. I know the array is populated at the time the function is called. But I get an error message as follows (in a browser window):

"Script Error
Error:Script:
IF arv[1].Name = "Steve"
Property not found
arv[] not found."

---pseudo code------------------
dim arr[1] as p
''code to populate array here
?arr[1].name 
--> "Steve" ' so I know it is a populated array

myfunction(arr)

FUNCTION myfunction as v (arr as p)
	if arr[1].name = "Steve"
	' do this or that
	end if
END FUNCTION

Also, given that this is a single dimension array, how can I initiate a pointer such that I can refer to my variable as arv.name rather than arv[1].name?

I resolved the first part, operator error. Made my variable named to obscure and used arv[1] when I should have used arf[1]. I'd still like to know how to take my single dimension array and be able to refer to my values as arf.name rather than arf[1].name.

Try this:

dim arr as P
arr.name = "Steve"
arr.last = "Wood"

?arr.name
= "Steve"

?arr.last
= "Wood"

?arr
= last = "Wood"
name = "Steve"

Thanks Scott. I meant, I have an array already defined, it has 200 fields and I want to 'dump' it to a pointer without going through the individual naming process you describe.

Sorry, I misunderstood.

I think your stuck using arr[1].name if the array is already created. It shouldn't be a big deal to use it in a function or any other code that way.

Not sure why you need it that way though?
Seems like more work. If it's a syntax issue in the function, I am sure it could be resolved some other way.

Passing Arrays to Functions

When you pass an array to a function, the receiving function defines the argument as a pointer.

Dim a[5] as C ..... Steve, so don't Dim it as P !!!
a[1] = "a value"
my_function(a)


function my_function as V (arr as P)
ui_msg_box("Array Value", arr[1])
end function
