Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    No records in query problem

    Hi,

Wondering if someone could help please.

I have a form which displays current jobs. From this form, I have a button that calls up a second form (variations) which displays the variations related to the particular job record being viewd linked by a Job_Id value.

If I have records in the variations database, then the second form opens perfectly and shows only the records related to that particular job but if there are no entries for the job in the variation database, I get a "No records in Query" error.

I have tried branching and If conditions but none seem to work. I have also tried using dbcount to count the records for the job in the variations database and base the conditions on =0 or >0.

If there are no records in the variations database for the job when the form is called, I want to still open the form but enter a new record.

    Any help please..

    David

Is the variations table and the job table part of a set. Does the variations table have multiple records keyed on a job id or is it a set with job_id as parent and variations as the child.

What is the current code on the button that calls the variations form?

There are several ways of doing what you want, but I am confused as to how the called form is designed - form with an job_id field and then an embeded browse with variation of that job id field.

I would help if you could create a sample to post here with what you are currently doing - it only needs sample data for us to get a look at what you need.

Re: No records in query problem

      Hi Tom,

      Thanks for your quick response.

The Jobs table and variations table are in a set with jobs as the parent and variations as the child.

The code on the button is actionscript (not great with xbasic yet) with and If condition set to check if there are records in the variations table based on the job_Id with
      dbcount("variations.dbf","Vari_Job_Id", Var->varjobid)

If this results in 0, I have the open form with new record.

If it results in >0 then I have the open form with records that match the value in a control.

      This does't work.

      Thanks

Re: No records in query problem

        David,
In sets I generally include a browse on the form to show some details of child record.
I then have a button to zoom to an existing record in a separate form (also double-click line in browse will do same), a button to add a new child that opens the child form with the linking field already populated and a button to delete the child record.
Obviously the exact functionality will vary depending on your application.
I see you are in Melbourne so I am happy to have a chat if you like to help you further.

Re: No records in query problem

          dim records as n
          records = a5_get_records_in_query("yourtable","your query")

          If records = 0
goto CheckMCA --- label to go /jump over to other location

          end if
