Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

      Re: Valid Drive

      I am moving client applications to a Citrix Server located 500 miles away.

      on the citrix it keeps the C drive as the drive on the Citrix server
      It assigns other drive letters to the users computer (V:)
      I know what drive letters the Citrix will assign based on user profiles.

      I need to copy exported files from the Citrix server to the local users computer
      I am going to use the code below to determine the status of the drive.

      dim global valid_drive as L
      dim global DriveV as L

      valid_drive = a5_is_path_valid("V:")
      if valid_drive = .t. then
      trace.WriteLn("V Drive is Valid")
      VAR->DRIVEV = .T.
      else
      trace.WriteLn("V Drive is NOT Valid")
      end if

      If var->DriveV = .t. then
      do copy routines here
      end if

        Re: Valid Drive

        Could also use file.Drives_get() and even file.drive_type() to determine this.

          I saw that but I could not get the code to work to read the list
          and check if the drive that I needed was there to set the variable to true or false.

            Charlie,
            If you want to figure out how to make it work let me know--I have used it several times in the past without issue....I have not tested it in v10 however.

              If you have the code handy I would like to see how it works.

                Re: Valid Drive

                Charlie,
                Most of my code was for determining the drives for backup methods but put together a few to maybe give you an idea of how I have done things...the following was done in the interactive editor for the most part...the paths would have been gotten from variables set prior generally but sounds like you would be using it as a hard coded "V" drive.

                I also used a different function for the drive list...the other I linked to also creates a list but with whatever delimiter you want---I prefer crlf lists as almost anything can then be done with them when parsing. vPath is a variable created prior that has the full path of the file.

                Code:
                dim lst as c
                lst=a5_get_writeable_drives()
                ?lst
                = A:\
                C:\
                D:\
                F:\
                G:\
                I:\
                J:\
                K:\
                L:\
                S:\

                dim exst as L
                exst=wordat("V:\\",lst,crlf())>0
                ?exst
                = .F.

                exst=wordat("D:\\",lst,crlf())>0
                ?exst
                = .T.

                'So once the drive was shown to exist I then test for the drive type
                 ' and made certain it had enough free drive space for the file.

                dim drv_type as c
                dim drv_sp as n
                drv_type=file.drive_type("D:\\")
                drv_sp=file.drive_space_avail("D:\\")
                if drv_type= "Fixed"
                    dim fil_sz as n
                    fil_sz=file.size(vPath)
                    if drv_sp <fil_sz
                        msgbox("The drive does not have enough space available.")
                        end
                      else
                      'do whatever
                    end if
                  else
                    msgbox("This drive is not a fixed drive.")
                    end
                end if
                Maybe will help....maybe confuse!! Hope the former.
