I would like to seek a refund of the $900.00 plus that I spent last week on Alpha 5 v10.5 Developer Edition, Application Server and Unlimited Runtime Edition.
I have never experienced a more frustrating week in my professional career. I have been a longtime Alpha Five (and prior) user and have a custom application that I have been using since the early 90's. I created some of it, hired some of it out to the professionals on this board, etc.
The application has worked flawlessly until the introduction of v10.
I downloaded and experimented with the initial trial version of v10 when it was made available and experienced multiple problems with it so I decided not to buy it. This was the first version I didn't purchase immediately upon its release in about 15 years.
I recently started having second thoughts and came to the conclusion that if I didn't try it again that i would be forced to miss any future releases as well. I hoped that with the release of v10.5 and the release of several bug fixes, it would run more stable for me.
Boy was I wrong...
I've spent countless hours tracking down issues that have risen since installing this version - using count instead of dbcount, etc. Why is it that using a calculated field to count records works fine in v9 but the same form takes 2 minutes to load in v10?
I fully understand that most changes I have made to make my application more v10 compliant should have been done anyways. I also realize that a lot of it is 'sloppy' coding but regardless, it worked perfectly fine with version 9 and prior.
Now I've run into problems that cannot be explained or duplicated -they are totally random. I can't even ask for help from one of the professionals on this board because I cannot duplicate them - they just happen for no explained reason.
For example... We enter up to several hundred new records in our database every day. Some days all is well but on others we get random strange errors. We have several forms with embedded browses on them. Suddenly several of the new records we created that day are listed twice in all the embedded browses and you cannot even select the record in the browse. Even though every record has a unique id number, it displays these records twice with the same id number. If I look at the
table itself, the record is only in there once. Why is it that it is displayed twice in all embedded browses? I even created a new form with an embedded browse with no filters or queries on it, and these records still show twice. The only way to correct it is to restart the server and then rebuild all the indexes.
I thought this might be a fluke but I was wrong. It has happened 4 times in the last two days.
Now we are also having unacceptable results with our invoicing system. Bear in mind that our current scripts have run flawlessly for years. Now, suddenly and randomly, we are experiencing very weird behavior.
I don't even know how to explain what has been occurring but here goes...
Today, we had 16 records flagged to be invoiced for a customer. This is very routine and we do this multiple times a day. The invoice was successfully created and our dialog box appeared showing the amount of records and the total of the invoice and both of these were also correct. Yet, when we print the invoice it is off by several hundred dollars and several of the records appear multiple times on the invoice and the invoice total is way off. We attempted to void the invoice and recreate it and received different results each time.
I restarted the server, went back to v9, rebuilt the indexes and all seems to be working fine again.
I've given up and would like to get a refund on all the v10 products I purchased.
