Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Text box using Barcode Scanner

    Hi,

I'm a newbee for alpha five.
I got some questions about application that I want to develope :
    1. Could I use barcode scanner as input device? (for invoice number if I build the application using alpha5)
    2. Could I host the application separate to Database server?
    3. Is there any module/script to checking any field before entry?
(such as validation but retrieve from other table)
    4. how many user can access at the same time for application which is developed by alpha5?

    Thx.

    Yes
    2. Could I host the application separate to Database server?
Please explain in a bit more detail
    3. Is there any module/script to checking any field before entry?(such as validation but retrieve from other table)
You can use Field Rules (table level) or scripts in forms to validate data before SAVING (rather than before entry)
    4. how many user can access at the same time for application which is developed by alpha5?
The help states "The number of users your network supports". Are you planning a web or desktop application? Maybe some more information regarding your plans would enable a better answer.

      FOr question no.2
I mean I already have ASP.NET page & SQL database server which is posted on discountasp.net server.
So for example I want to migrate to alpha7 five, how can I host the alpha5 page into server machine still using sql server on discountasp.net server machine?

      For question no. 4
Example, I have more then 100 user want to access the webpage, could alpha5 handle this at the same time?

      More question,

      5. How can I upload my .csv file to sql server using alpha5? How can I validate the .csv file ?(if already have the number so this record can be skipped)Is there any module/script doing this?

      6. COuld Desktop application which is created by alpha5 can access the DB server over internet?
Example : I got desktop application and my DB server on the other country. (2 different place)

      7. I want to develop 2 application,1 for web and 1 for desktop application. The DB using SQL Server 2008 R2.
For the web application (1'st location) I've plan to use Online SQL Server which is posted in Provider and do only entry record & some calculation.
And the desktop application also have DB server in internal place. This application do validation for records that have entered before but only for record content not for number of transaction(primary key).
After validating the record, the record is sign as validation field after that go to the next level is grouping the transaction by customer.(this step also have to sign the record) and the last step is print the invoice.
after print the invoice, operator can not change any records.(lock record)

      My questin is :
      * How can I synchronize the DB between 1'st DB server and the 2'nd DB Server? So both of them have same records.
      * COuld Web application do the desktop application? so I can build the application using web application.
      * How alpha5 sign the record after validating the record? (same as sign the invoice)

Thx. I really appreaciate your answer.

This messageboard is mainly used as a knowledgebase for finding solutions to single questions. Having more than one question in a thread makes this a bit harder to use.

In addition, many times one person will not know the answer to multiple questions but may know one....but won't post due to not knowing all the answers....or won't post due to the huge amount of time it would take to answer many questions even if all the answers were known!

I suggest asking single topic questions per thread....and, of course, first searching this enormous knowledgebase first as most questions have already been asked and answered. Once you cannot find the answer for sure ask here!!
