Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Vertical Alignment of Text In Browse Row

    Hello All,

    I've been using Alpha5 for 7 years now and have never had this issue come up.

    I have a customer who wants the text in each row of a browse vertically centered. If you increase the height of the rows, the text stays glued to the top edge of the browse and he wants it in the center.

    There is a Horizontal Alignment property for each column, but nothing for the vertical alignment.

    I've searched the message board but didn't come up with anything helpful.

    Does anyone know if this is possible and if so, what am I missing?

    Thanks

    Louis

    Sounds more like a WAS grid embedded in a desktop object.

    That type of formatting is more html oriented.....

      Re: Vertical Alignment of Text In Browse Row

      Louis,
      This has been brought up before and at the time I believe it was suggested to be placed in the wishlist forum (do not know if it was)....there was no solution given then.

      I just revisited it and with some work the spacing of the field text can be changed by inserting {LF=??}; just prior to the xdialog that controls the field when using Edit Display Format for each column. The syntax of it can be found in the Object Explorer. Note that the semi-colon that follows the {LF=??} is necessary to make this work....

      So to do this, a simple algorithm can be created for how much space (line feed) should be placed dependent upon row height....you can even go as far as doing this conditionally on font types as well if you want to go overboard a bit.

      Just to eliminate things....I also tried modifying the {stickto=??} and {justify=??} without any luck...the {LF=??}; was what I came up with that would accomplish the goal.

      oh yeah....this was done in version 9....but think it would work in v8 as well when it was the version the first time I had heard this request.

        Al, thank you for your suggestion.

        Mike, Thanks for the example.

        I will give each of your suggestions a try.

          Mike - I read your answer with interest, but still cannot figure this out. I'm using V11 and I just do not see how this can be done.

          Thanks,

          Charlie

            Hi Charlie,

            Sorry about the late response. I remember doing this but I no longer have version 8 or 9 installed and it is possible that v11 is different as I cannot see the xdialog displayed when formatting. I checked a bit to see what could be done with no results....yet. I will try again in a day or so.

              Charlie,
              I figured out a way. I used an embedded browse on a form.

              1. In Design mode, double-click on the column header/title in order to get to the display properties of each column which you can choose by right clicking.
              2. Choose Text from the left box and add it...then highlight the control and press the Edit Control button beneath the right box.
              3. Go into the expression builder and choose your field...I usually add an Alltrim() for the field.
              4. Press OK and such to get back to the form which is still in design mode.
              5. On the top menu choose View and open the Object Explorer. Choose your field that is in the Browse in the Object Explorer.
              6. Next choose "Field" which will have a plus sign next to it and expand it to choose Display Properties. The xdialog that appears in the bottom display box or this value is what you need to change with code. Copy this value and place somewhere such as notepad, Interactive editor, wherever. Next copy the value syntax.

              You can use the OnInit, OnActivate, etc. to change the display. Or even a button which is what I used to test.

              All you need to do is to add semicolons prior to the Text that was chosen....each semicolon will lower the text a very small amount.

              I had tried to use a linefeed which worked in prior versions but it resulted in a quote added in a line above the text with v11....semicolons work just fine an a algorithm could be made in the same way for various browse row heights if wanted.

              Here is an example of where I added the semicolons:

              Path is the column's field/Title. Look at where the semicolons are placed within the code...everything but the semicolons is what the displayequation shows initially that I had you copy.

              The syntax

              Code:
              dim txt as C=""
              txt=<<%t%
              ";;;{\""+alltrim(Path)+"}"%t%

              topparent:Control_browse1:Path.Field.Displayequation=txt

              topparent.commit()

              You will have to do this for each column present in the browse which really does not take that long to do.

              Any questions let me know.

                Charlie,

                A linefeed does work as well...I should have read my original answer you asked about closer. The syntax for using a linefeed is:

                Code:
                dim txt as C=""
                txt=<<%t%
                "{lf=2};{\""+alltrim(Path)+"}"%t%

                topparent:Control_browse1:Path.Field.Displayequation=txt

                topparent.commit()
                Linefeeds can use decimals so you can pretty much add any amount of linefeed you want. Ex: {lf=1.25}
                Mike
