Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Displaying drop down yes/no combination

I have a drop down that displays 0/1's from a table. I want to have a display value of NO/YES instead of the numerical values but
keep the values associated with the drop down as 0 or 1 for the updates.

I've been trying to use a conditional:
    if(STATUS_INDICATOR = 0,'In','Out') but haven't had much luck.

Any advise would be much appreciated...

    Thanks

    Pat

    Hi Pat,

A sample of your app with your drop-down would help us to help you better.

Also, state more context....looking closer I believe you must be using some sort of SQL as that is what your syntax indicates (single quotes for one thing)....

So if you are using SQL and your conditional is being done on the SQL side using a SQL function, then you will have to explain this.

If what you presented is supposed to be for DBF then I can see that it is the syntax in the if statement.....use double quotes around the "IN" and "OUT" instead of the single quotes.

Re: Displaying drop down yes/no combination

The dropdown takes information from a sql server table, the two values are 0 or 1 from field STATUS_INDICATOR. This needs to pre-fill the drop down display value, 0 for No and Yes for 1. I just want to be able to replace the 0 or 1 with a yes or no, and keep 0 or 1 as a return value on submit...

I'm using dynamically generated drop downs that runs the following select statement:
SELECT DISTINCT STATUS_INDICATOR FROM EMPLTIMETRX ORDER BY STATUS_INDICATOR, this statement just returns a 1 or 0

        Please see screen grab...

        Thanks

          Patrick,
That does not add much to your context really ---are you using SQL entirely? Is that screenshot of a DBF form or a SQL form? If a SQL form then I take it you want to duplicate that in DBF?

As Keith said....a sample is best as I cannot determine either exactly the context or the issue going about it this way!! :)

Re: Displaying drop down yes/no combination

Why bother with getting a status indicator from a table. If your options are just going to be Yes or No, then use User Defined choices in the dropdown... image attached. This provides the Yes/No and stores the selection as 0/1.

How come you need to go after the status indicator in a SQL statement?
