Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Error message

    V10 build 2814-2539 windows XP

upon closing one particular form after adding data I get this message

    "Alpha5 Unrecoverable error

Unhandled exception (Access Violation- the thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have appropriate access

Alpha5 will do a forced termination"

I have been using this form on my windows7 work computer and have not gotten this message and I developed this form on my home comupter which is now giving me the error message.
Can anyone help with it's meaning, why it just started and possible correction

    Re: Error message

    Garry,
Very hard to know. Although you might not believe it, you made, or a change was made that caused this. If you have backups, I would look at what you changed since the last one that worked. Are your tables in the same folder as you application or were any moved to different folders?

I made a complete copy of the folder at work. I keep it in a folder called MyWorkDb. Put it on my home computer and it gives me the error message!

        Re: Error message

This is a repair invoice form. On this form I have a checkbox with a variable called "warranty" set to "no" When I check the box the variable changes to "yes" and a conditional box opens with a field used as a lookup. When I click the lookup it opens a browse based on my sales table where I can select the information on the product so I don't have to type it in.
I get this error message when I use that particular part of my form. I thought the lookup might be having something to do with the error.
I noticed Chuck Bytes was having a problem that sounds similar in his post

I also have this problem with one of my forms. I went so far as to completely recreate the form and still have the problem. It only happens when I close the form... so my workaround was to hide the form instead of closing it. The upside here is that I now have the option to "open" (actually .show) the form in the exact position with the exact record that had focus when the form was "closed" (actually hidden). I don't mind the workaround... but I would rather not have the error.

            Re: Error message

I only get the error message when I go to close the form too. I quit using the checkbox and moved the lookup out of the conditional object that showed when the check box was checked and the problem hasn't shown up since. But like I said before, this hasn't been a problem on my WIN7 computer at work. Maybe an XP sp3 thing!

              Re: Error message

Interesting... I think it might have something to do with conditional objects. I have several on this particular form. I am using Win Vista so I don't think it's an XP issue.
