Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Custom Menu Definition

I am trying to replace the System Default Right-Click Menu for unlocked fields. I suppose what I need to do is create a "Custom Menu Definition" and name it 'Form_Right_Click_Edit_Edit'. I am confused if that is suppose to be a function or a custom menu. I have created a menu called 'Form_Right_Click_Edit' ... it wouldn't allow for more characters than that. On the oninit event of the form I have used the following to set the menu, but I have had no luck... system menu still comes up.

    '-------
    :FORM_V1.Property_Add("right_click_menu")
    :FORM_V1.right_click_menu = "FORM_Right_Click_Edit"
    '------

Anyone know how to use a custom right click menu (edit mode) on runtime?

    Re: Custom Menu Definition

The best way is to open the form indesign mode, go to properties of the form, and menus, and rightclick, and put it there - and note that it will tell you you may need to make several menus for the same event.

The same appplies to fields, and browses

Wel ........ Don ......... you must not holding your nose right!! I can make either a custom menu or custom toolbar - give them names, and for a form set the form to use those menus or toolbars.

          Hi Martin,
I am sure I am missing something. I have done that and a dozen other things, but still no luck. I have attached an example of what I have done... the problem I haven't been able to figure out is when I right click on a field on the form it still brings up the System Menu. What am I doing wrong???

Don, I didn't open, but the form has a right cklick menu, and you can set a different right click menu for the fields and set all to use the same - also browses can also have their own right click menu.

              Hi Martin,
Yes, I am fully aware of all that. I guess my point to the thread is that it doesn't work. Plane and simple. If you try what I have described in my previous posts I believe you would find the same thing. I am aware that you can set custom menus.... my problem is that I haven't been able to get those custom menus to work on a field while in edit/change mode.

                Re: Custom Menu Definition

OK.. now I got it. There were actually two problems:

                1) My naming of the menus were too long... which prevented me from creating the _view and _edit menus that Alpha was looking for.

                2) You apparently need to create BOTH custom menus: Menu_Name_view AND Menu_Name_Edit

Thanks for taking a look Martin and sorry to waste your time. Now back to business http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...cons/icon7.gif

                  Re: Custom Menu Definition

for fields - yes; but not for the form
also, you can have different menus for the fields for the different conditions - view, edit

as I recall, the same is true for embedded browses

                  am including an example
unzip - and the password is martin3333
click on customers button and right click in a field and whitespace on the form

i did not make a separate menu for fields for the different conditions

the main menu has a button to get to the control panel
