Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Underline field values in Calculated Field

I have a calculated field with text and field values. Is it possible to only underline the field values so that the text is not underlined? Using U with [] does not work.

    Thanks

    Kenn,

    If we know more .....

Is there any difference between the text and the fieldvalues?
What are their porperties and where do they come from?
Can we assume you're talking about a calc field on a form?

Re: Underline field values in Calculated Field

      Hi Ton,

The calc field on the form would be something like this:

The brown dog bit the mailman in the butt.

Brown is a field value for the field 'Color'. Mailman is a field value for the field 'Person'. Thus, the fields are underlined. There is nothing in the field rules and the underline feature is available "only" in the fields properties, including calculated field properties, which underlines the entire calculated field.

      Thanks,

            Nice to hear Kenn.

If it's instructive, will you please then tell us how you did what you wanted?

It is really quite simple, no Xbasic involved. This is on a sub-report based on a child table:
              1. Create a calculated field containing the First and Last name of the individual in the parent table. (I used the Trim function)
              2. Open the sub-report.
              3. From the tool bar, place a Rich Text Memo field on the sub report.
              4. Drag and drop the calculated field as well as the fields from the child table into the RTMF. Place whatever text is needed to go with the fields.
              5. Drag the mouse over the fields where the formating is needed and select the appropriate formating.
              6. Have a look and adjust as necessary.

              The result is:

Ton Spies was the first person to request instructions on how to create this unique sub-report.

Note: If no fields are needed from the parent table, skip step 1. You can format the fields and/or text in most any manner desired such as changing fonts, font size, bold, italics, whatever.

Again, thanks to Al Buchholz for the suggestion. The results are really

My first thoughts were: Such a calc field in a table?? and later: On a form??
But aha, it's a calculated field on a report!!

Anyway thanks for your clear instructions Kenn.

Re: Underline field values in Calculated Field

You could do this with HTML, RTF or visual illusion:
If the string is not too large, put the field containing the underlined text next to the one without formatting and so on where in the end it all appears as one string.
