Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    ActiveLink Table Error

    Hi,

    I have installed sql server 2008 r2 on my server computer.

    Then created several active-link tables on my development computer, this connect via local network to the server pc.

    All is working fine on the development machine, but as soon as I install the alpha application to another pc (also on the local network, connecting to the same server pc) some active-link table are not working any more.

    It looks like the active link table duplicates one record by the total number of records in that table. Especially the larger tables, in this case 500+ records. I have re-created a ALphaDAO connection, refreshed the active-link structure, still duplicating one record many times over.

    Then installed the alpha app on another pc on the network, and got the same error. It still duplicates one record by the number of records in the sql table. So I see one record duplicated 500 times over, if there are 500 records in the sql table.

    The smaller tables of 30odd records is no problem. Some of those active-links are working fine.

    Any ideas would be appreciated or any setting to change maybe??

    Thanks
    Walter

    Re: ActiveLink Table Error

    Hi,

    I have changed the block size, the fetch limit, max row to fetch before enter values as well.

    It looks like the active-link table gets "corrupted" as soon as the records are fetched or something. It reads the first record, but then something goes wrong, it knows there are X records in that table, but just enter the first record and duplicates it all.

    I am really desperate at this stage, have spent many hours creating the app, only to see it collapse on other computers.

    I am not creating a shadow copy as well, it is all "stand alone" apps I am installing on the other pc's.

    `````
    Then I created a new database with one table on sql server 2008 R2 called invoice_t, with 2 records in it.
    After that, created a new alpha app - latest version - and created a new active link table on the development machine, and it works fine.
    Then I created a new Alpha app, version 10 - latest version - on my other pc, created the active link, and it duplicate 1 record 2 times, as there are 2 records in the sql table.
    Now, I am going to test if the same happens if I create a mysql active link, version 5.1.49....
    Anyone experiencing something similar??
    Kind Regards
    Walter
      Hi,
      I have created an active link to mysql, and on all the computers the active links are working fine.
      I have attached a screen shot of this scenario.
      the j_jobs tbl is the mysql table and the jobs_t the sql table.
      I have tired several thing to try and get it to work,
      changed the date format, currency format, checked that the sql server accepts multi users, etc etc.
      I am out of ideas....
      Kind regards
      Walter
        Hi
        I seem to have the same problem but mine does not duplicate the records.
        Instead i get one instead of all the records in a form
        The first time i run everything seems to work fine and as soon as i load the form again, i wont be able to load all the records from the database.
        I am using SQL 2008 Developer.
        I have been using stored procedures and views on the first application. I have managed to solve the problem by creating all the relationships in SQL Server and created Sets.
        It seems i didnt know how to use stored procedures and views somehow.
        If you are using stored procedures, try creating sets in alpha and map your filed rules instead of creating views and joins in sql server.
            Update:
            Still not able to sort out the issue.
            I had to convert back to MYSQL - all is working as expected here.
            I would prefer to get at least one project working on SQL 2008 , but I guess I have to try again.
            Regards
              Hi Guys,
              I have had the same frustrations. Finally solved it today.
              The problem is caused by MS SQL 2008 having a 'date' field type that A5v10 does not like.
              Set the SQL 2008 field to 'datetime', A5 will see it as 'time'. In 'Active Link table -> Edit Definition -> Override Field Definitions' edit field definition to 'date' and all will work as advertised.
              Now my app runs well on MS Server 2008(32bit) / Terminal Server / and MS SQL 2008 (on 64bit Server)
              Hope this helps
              Peter
