Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Landscape

I want to produce an A4 report in landscape that fills an A4 page.
Frames show, horizontal lines show, vertical lines do not. Can any one help?
    Regards
    Ron

    Ron,

Are you using vertical lines just as a border?
It shouldn't be a problem unless you have them outside the printable area.
I use vertical lines all the time and have no problem.

I am using vertical lines within a frame. Are you using them in a full A4 Landscape report? There are many problems with this scenario!

        Re: Landscape

Yes, I am using vertical lines in frames and one of the reports is in full page.
My initial response was from my V9 background, however I just did a test to check how things go in V10. In one of my projects I have a couple of reports both portrait and landscape they all look fine in V10.

It takes a bit of tweaking to get a proper set up in landscape.
In the properties you can switch between specific printer and default printer. Sometimes it's not possible to select a format and it looks like some properties can not be selected. In order to set the proper page format I had to switch from one to the other before I got it right.

Thanks for that; I am still tweaking. It's a good thing that I am not charging the customer for my time. I think the folk's at Alpha should have another look at this one!

            Hallo Jo,

It would be nice if you would post in the code archive a small appication just with a report that shows how you did it.
That would be helpfull for everybody and every version.

            Hartelijk dank

              Ron,

Another thing to bear in mind is that when you transfer your new report to your customer you might at some point find that the report looks as if it is portrait again. The best results I had is when the default printer was selected in the report properties.

                Hoi Ton,
I think it might be difficult to show how it's done. Often this is a matter of exploring boundaries/ printable area of a page/printer.
Maybe just an example of a small application so that users can browse the design and settings. Is that what you mean?

                  Yes Jo, that's it.
Looking at the report people can see what you did and how it looks so they can use it for their own needs.

                  O, moet dat zo

Thanks for all the replies, but it should be an easy task not a time consuming one. I would like to be able to print a form in landscape.

                      Ron,
First time this has been stated and can change solutions to your issue...
be able to print a form
                      .

If you gave a sample more of us would likely be willing to have a look at the issue.

                        Mike

I am now using a report to print in landscape. I would like to use a form. I find it very 'fiddly' to get the margins and settings correct. I would be willing to post an example of what I am doing but I do not know how to extract a form or report from my database?

                        Regards

                          Re: Landscape

Even though in v10 extracting a specific form/report is possible, by doing so you are limiting yourself to available "helpers" here on the board....do as everyone else has done...recreate a small sample for us to see the issue.

This is easily done by creating a new db, and then adding the table/set required that has the form/report....then sanitize any confidential info there may be prior to zipping it and attaching to a post.

And printing a form is going to require a different solution than printing a report--can be done successfully, but has some limitations as well. BTW, forms are set up to used to View records, reports are set up in order to print records....that is why you will see many advisements here to not try to print a form.

Once you have your first landscape report ready you deserve a pint and the next time you need to create such a report it will be a piece of cake!
