Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Time Expression

    I have created an expression to display a time field:

    Time("0h:0m AM")

    This works fine except if the field is blank it then displays as 12:00 AM.

    How would I create an if statement to display as blank instead of 12:00 AM?

    Thanks

      Re: Time Expression

      I'm still having problems with this. I am trying to enter an expression to be used in an email template and still cannot get this to work.

      Note - Time = My time field

      I've tried:
      if(isblank(Time),"",Time("0h:0m AM"))

      The above results in an invalid expression.

      I've also tried to make it simpler by using:
      if(time="","",Time)

      The above also results in an invalid expression.

      I then went into the email template designer and entered it as:

      [.IFTime<>""]Time: <<Time>> [.ELSE][.END_IF]

      The above works except if the time field is blank it still displays:
      Time: 12:00:00 00 am

      Thanks

          This works fine if my time field is blank, but it displays the current time rather than the value in the time field if it is not blank.

          Thanks

                Here is the final Director's cut:
                if(isblank("Time_field"),"",Time("0h:0m AM",Time_field))
                Gosh! I should be able to do this in my sleep.

                      sorry for the syntax (missing "") and I was also going to suggest you not use the word time as this was probably triggering the error.

                        It's kind of an aside and a little late to be commenting on this, but what exactly is "12:00 AM" even supposed to mean? The abbreviation A.M. stands for ante meridiem (or before the meridian) and P.M. stands for post meridiem (or after the meridian), with the meridian being 12:00 noon. So, "12:00 AM" is to mean "12:00 before noon"? For this reason, neither abbreviation is correct for noon or midnight. No, this does not address the question raised in this thread but it is related, and no, for computers that use the 12 hours time system I certainly don't know how this issue should be dealt with. But let's thank the time gods (or whomever) that at least our military does not use a 12 hour clock!

                          I struggled with this as I was developing a class to deal with time, and finally came to a simple conclusion: 12:00 is 0, the very beginning of a 12-hour block of time (or 24 hours for 24-nour clock). If it's AM, it's the very earliest AM time. If PM, the very earliest PM time.

                          I hope that helps someone.

                            Because of the issue with which 12 is 12, on my reports, I specify Noon or Midnight. That seems to aleviate any question.

                            example of my calc field

                            Code:
                            if(left(time("h AM"),2)="12".and.Right(time("h AM"),2)="PM",Left(time(),2)+" Noon",if(left(time("h AM"),2)="12".and.Right(time("h AM"),2)="AM",Left(time(),2)+" Midnight",time("h AM")))

                              Right. Of course a little context often makes it clear which is meant (e.g., most restaurants do not start start serving lunch at midnight). But there are situations in which what is meant is not clear and in which it does matter, as in deadlines.
