Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to get only unique values using Xdialog and Record List-Combo box

    I have a "Search" feature where I use an Xdialog / Record List-Combo box to build a part number list. I select the part number and then run a query to filter the browse on the form. Is there anyway to limit the record list in hte Xdialog to only show unique values?

    i.e. - If a part number (xxxx) is listed in the table 4 times I want to see xxxx in the list once rahter than four times. I have a query after the part number is selected so I really only need to "jump" to that part number.

    Here is the Xdialog code if it helps......

    'Create an XDialog dialog box to prompt for parameters.
    DIM SHARED vP_N as C
    DIM SHARED varC_result as C
    ok_button_label = "&OK"
    cancel_button_label = "&Cancel"
    DIM vP_N_rl_def as C
    vP_N_rl_def = "k=revised_prints,{keylist_build(\"H=.05,1:20\",''+rppcode,left(''+rppcode,20))}{}"
    varC_result = ui_dlg_box("Part Number Search",<<%dlg%
    {region}
    Part Number:| [%@vP_N_rl_def%.30vP_N];
    {endregion};
    {line=1,0};
    {region}
    <*15=ok_button_label!OK> <15=cancel_button_label!CANCEL>
    {endregion};
    %dlg%)

    Try using a sub-report for it.

      I am not sure about the record list process but having a quick look you can filter in the options based on unique value.

      I use this on a simple combo list. The key factor is that the list must be sorted based on a field. if it is not sorted then you will still get mulitple occurrences.

      In having a look between the two I see the key difference is that you can't seen to set the sort order for the record list like you can in the combo. The combo however does not let you get a return based on the record ID.

      In your case, the if the unique ID can be the part number and this is displayed in the drop down list, then I would use the simple combo instead. Base it on unique records and sort it by part number

        I just had a look at the sample DB 'Learn xdialog' There were a few to do with this subject. It may pay to have a look at that.

          Scott, I don't have your tables so cant test but you need to add a unique_key_value() to the keylist builder. I've put it in red in your code below.

          For future projects when building the xdialog in the action script editor click on the filter builder and then on the query options tab and check the unique records only box.

          Hope this helps
