Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

email issues with build 3606 runtime on client

we installed his settings, using Alpha as the client, and did 2 tests, and the test emails succedded and he got 2 test emails from Alpha - BUT - when we try to email a report, the dialog screen comes up correctly, with the attachment, but the "message" area and the send button are both greyed out - and he cannot email.

    any ideas?

      Hi Martin,
How are you calling the report email? from the report preview? If so try the xbasic route. I also occasionally, in past versions of Alpha, have had the email not always work --resorted to xbasic and it would.

        thanks Mike
        yes, am using xbasic
has been working over 4 years in V8
moved to V10.5 (works perfectly on my machine)
but on client's machine not working
they can do a test email from settings, but they get a greyed out screen when they try to actually use it
        on XP Pro and W7

think I am going to try reinstalling the runtime and a patch to see if that fixes it

          Martin,
What exact function are you using that presents the dialog in your attached picture?

Re: email issues with build 3606 runtime on client

by the time I get here, I have already populated these variables

            email_client(sendtofirst,vsubject,"See attached PDF",trpt)

bear in mind, it works perfectly on my machine
I'm beginning to wonder if this could be related to the new "dot.net" version of the runtime, which they have

I had them also try sending from the preview, and on one machine it worked, and on another they got an error message from the Alpha xdialog that runs the Alpha email screen

I'm going to have them reinstall the runtime from scratch, on one machine, using the older (non dot.net) version, and see if that makes any difference

otherwise, it would seem to be related to something else, like maybe their virus/firewall or something

Re: email issues with build 3606 runtime on client

I went to my W7 machine, and tried to send an email and got the same 503 error as my client
as a test, I deleted the alphafive4 printer, and reinstalled the runtime from the original 10.0 runtime setup, and installed the "old" 3606 patch and that fixed it on my w7 machine

so I don't know if removing the "newer" driver was the issue, or the newer "dot.net" issue was the problem

I really hate that my client will have to do all this, but see no other way around it

Fixed it for my client, too
Selwyn is trying to reproduce the error
my best guess it is the new alphafive4 printer driver recently released by amyuni or the dodt.net version

I'll post results here if Selwyn can reproduce and makes a fix
