Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Activate Drop Down when form opens

I have a field on a form that I activate when the form is open. The field is a Record List-Combo Box and I would like to "activate" the drop down so that they items show on when you enter the form.

Basically exactly what it does if you click the arrow but just have it do it "automatically" when the form opens.

In the attached video clip I click the arrow a couple of times just to indicate how I would like the initial form view to look like.

    Any ideas?

There's an action script element to activate an object. Then you want an inline xbasic snippet

    sys_send_keys("{Alt-Down}")

    I think.

This would be for the form's onactivate event. Might be better to use the oninit on onfetch events. If you code the onactivate thusly then if you close the dropdown with cancel the form onactivate event fires again and drops the drop down, ad infinitum.

I'll see if I can find an example.

      Stan,

I have tried so many things on this it is hard to list them all...but bascially here is what I have discovered.

F.Y.I. - I launch this form from a button from my Main Menu form. I also have the button creating a new record, so the form is sitting on entering a new record.

On the forms OnEnter event I have .....
      parentform:vOnBehalfOf.activate()

The OnEnter, activates / places the cursor in the field as needed.

I tried the following......sys_send_keys("{%DOWN}") the following ways.....

OnActivate event: Does not show the drop down but appears as though it attempted since there is a value showing. OnActivate.jpg

OnFetch and OnInit: See attachment OnFetch_OnInit.jpg

OnTimer (timer set to 2 seconds as a test) OnTimer.jpg

The OnTimer was just a test to see if it had something to do with the timing of the event firing the code. (although worked just like I pressed Alt - Down Arrow, which is what I need)

Not sure what else to try. If you have any ideas let me know.

        Code:
        sys_send_keys("{%DOWN}")
Add an inline xbasic element to the Main menu button after the action script element that opens the second form and begins the new record. Above code for that inline xbasic.

No event code on the second form dealing with this issue.

I repeated the same method as you have and unfortunatley receive a different result. (see the pic) The field I am trying to do this with is a variable, not sure if that matters but just thougth I would mention it.

Works the same with a variable unless I don't understand the intent.

              Stan,

I changed your sample around a bit to closer match what I am doing in my actual app although it works in the example but not in my app.

Something else going on in my app but not sure what yet. I am in the middle of another project at the moment and will need to get back to this one a little later.

Couple things I changed in the sample.
              1. The variable is on the form.
              2. The Lookup is on the form level not the table.
              3. The second form opens centered.
