Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Help with golf tournament set design

I would like to find help (pay or free) with putting together a set to help manage a small golf club. The membership part is easy.
The problem I've having is the set design that allows for tournament scores for up to 60 golfers or 60 teams, sometimes single golfer, sometimes 2-person teams, sometimes 3-person teams and team members are vary rarely the same.
Want to be able to sign up golfers, take money for entry fees, enter scores Sat night, calculate flights Sat night(up to 6 flights of up to 15 teams each), and post Sun and final scores with results.
Of course the normal membership stuff.
Please let me know if you are interested and I will email you more detailed information.
    Thanks
    Tony

Re: Help with golf tournament set design

I would do something like this for the table structure

    Tournament
    |
    ======(1:M) Tourn_Team
    |
    =======(1:M)Team_Players

The tables could contain the following fields

    Tournament Table Fields
    ----------------------
    Tourn_ID (Auto-Incrementing #)
    Tourn_Name
    Course_name
    Tourn_Location
    #_of_holes
    #_of_rounds
    Player_Fee
    Registration_end date
    Tourn_start_date
    Max_Players (if needed)
    Max_Teams (if needed)
    etc...

    Tourn_Team Table Fields
    ------------------------
    Team_id (auto-increment )
    Tourn_id (Link to tournament table)
    team_name
    num_of_players
    date_registered
    round1_score
    round2_score
    round3_score
    final_score
    notes
    etc...

    Team_Players Table fields
    -------------------------
    Player_id (auto increment)
    Team_id (linking to tourn_team->team_id field)
    Player_name
    contact_info
    amt_paid
    amt_due
    paid_on_date
    round1_score
    round2_score
    round3_score
    final_score
    notes
    etc...

let me know if you need help or have any questions but I think this should get you started.

shoot me an e-mail [email protected] if you want to send me more details.

I can do it all for you if you'd let and we can discuss a reasonable fee. If this is all you to do then it should be fairly simple to complete in a reasonable time as well.

Tournament table which contains fields in general about the tournament, i.e. Dates, Fees, Name of tournament, etc.
Teams - child table linked to the Tournament table 1:M by the Tournament ID number. This would have info about the team itself such as Team Type (2, 3,4 member)

Player - a grandchild table linked 1:M to the Teams table by a Team ID number. This would contain info about each player.

That would be the basic layout and no doubt others might have ideas as well.

Want to be able to sign up golfers, take money for entry fees, enter scores Sat night, calculate flights Sat night(up to 6 flights of up to 15 teams each), and post Sun and final scores with results.

This would require additional tables and more info is needed,

        Hope this helps,
