Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Lost Query - Bug or Expected

The form ShippingTicket in the attached DB is sorted decending by ticket number (last ticket at the top of the list). Would someone confirm in V10 that when you query by form for, say ticket 3, that toggling between the form and browse causes the query to be lost (all records shown)?

Also, that opening the form, clicking add new record, then cancelling the add record before saving, puts the form back to acending sort order (decending is lost)?

Both of these traits do not happen in V4.5.

    Thank you.

It says it is already attached (?).

I posted the file in an earlier thread titled "query by form" a few posts back.

            Hi,

            Found it.

I can't recreate the first problem as I haven't enough time at the moment.

Creating a new record, then cancelling does not seem to change the sort order for me. I am using developer latestest version.

So if you open the form which displays tickte no. 4, then click new record, then immediately cancel, you are still on ticket no. 4 or are you on ticket no. 1?

Can you explain more about the first problem with the query?

                  Thanks

Re: Lost Query - Bug or Expected

That what I see - the sort definition becomes broken and you return to shippint ticket 1, not ticket 4.

                    Back to the first problem:
Do a query by form for one record (say shipping ticket 3), now you have one record in the set. In V4.5 you are able to toggle between the form and the browse without loosing the query.

Do you loose the single record query (all shown)?

Re: Lost Query - Bug or Expected

From what I see, if the forms sort order is changed to ascending ticket number rather than descending, then both problems go away.

Not a good answer for my application though.

Re: Lost Query - Bug or Expected

Are you referring to the embedded browse? If so the query stays as expected for me and keeps record 3 without allowing access away from it.

                        On the second problem:
Forgive me, but I thought you were referring to the sort order in which the records are appearing. I.E. 4 at the start, 1 at the end as this is still the case even in the event of a cancelled query.

Re: Lost Query - Bug or Expected

I am not referring to the embedded browse, I am referring to the View Browse button on the left side of the Form Tool Bar. While in a form you can go the the companion browse view of the current set by hitting the browse button (or F8). Doing this more than once breaks the query and all records are shown. This should not happen and does not happen in V4.5. You should be able to toggle back and forth between the form and the companion browse all day long without breaking the query. Should stay until you hit "Show All".

                            Hi,

No this does not clear the query for me. I toggled about 20 times and it remains on 3 without allowing me to leave.

It remains on ticket 3, but are the other tickets showing in the companion browse or just the one record (ticket 3)?
