Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    problem with subreports

I have an application I originally designed in A5V5. The client requested an upgrade to V10.5. We opened the old app in V10.5 and tested all the forms, reports and code. One of the reports will not function properly. The report takes data from a main Customer info table and matches it with data from 2 child tables. The subreports are filtered using the scanning function;ex.

    SCANNING("APPLICATIONS").AND.APPLICATIONS->UNIT=SYSTEM3.AND.APPLICATIONS->DATE=LDS

Where the applications table is filtered by the customer number and then the unit # and a date of service. The report contains 12 subreports. The problem we are having is that instead of printing the report on a single page it is printing a separate page for each system. In the application the user has the option of printing the report for the currently viewed record, and it will print as designed. The user also has the option of running a query and printing the reports as a batch; by route, zipcode ...
When printing as a batch the report will print one page for each child record. The pages will be ordered so that all of the reports with one system will print, followed by all the reports with 2 systems and so on. I have tried executing the report without any queries and it still prints as multiple pages. There are other reports in the app that use subreports, but not the scanning function. These work as designed when printing batches based on queries. If I open a copy of the app in the original v5 the report works as designed. According to the documentation and help files the scanning function is supported by the versions 5 and 10.5. Does anyone know of any conflicts with subreports or the scanning function between v5 and v10.5? Thank you for any help or advice.

    Re: problem with subreports

Hi all, I posted this 2 weeks ago and for the first time on this forum I haven't gotten any replies. I'm not sure if I did a poor job explaining the problem. I was thinking of posting a sample file, but the report uses a non-standard page layout. It is designed for a 11 x 8.5 page in portrait format. In order to use the sample the user would have to download the driver for the specific printer, a EPSON FX-2190 ESC/P. I suspect this a bug or at least an unforseen limitation on the programs report generator.

    Thank You

      Jeff,
I have a report made for a client that is 17 wide by 11 high - prints to a pdf - so I think you should be able to put a sample here - also, try removing the scanning from the filter and see what happens

        Re: problem with subreports

Martin, I have attached a portion of the application and sample data. The reports are set to preview only. To test find account "A25". Click on the "Current Record F/R" to preview how the report should look. The data is displayed without the reports preprinted content but you will see how it should layout. To see the problem query the table by zipcode=10021. Click on the "Batch Field Report" and see how the report is now broken down with one page for each system. I had to use the scanning function when I first designed the report to get the needed data. The report draws data form a parent table and 3 child tables. All are one-to-many links. Is their another way to select for the subreports besides the scanning function? Should I use a different index, Accno+lds, for the report? You may have to change the report properties to your printer driver before you can preview.

        Thank You
