Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Almost have it working Xdialog Browse

I almost have it working
X dialog Embedded Browse Filter

attached zip file
Please run code test employee3

Can anyone show me how to get the filter to work.

I think it has something to do with the way I am applying the variable vfilter on line 416

Code:
<browse width="1001" height="578" gridline_horizontal="yes" gridline_vertical="yes" data_entry_style="default" row_height="16"> filter=vfilter
Thanks

Filter needs to be inside the >

Try
<browse width="1001" height="578" gridline_horizontal="yes" gridline_vertical="yes" data_entry_style="default" row_height="16" filter="Var->vfilter">

My example will give you an error as I now realise what you want

Replace the filter=vfilter with filter="Active=.t." 'I have tested and works

Now to change that to a variable you will need to break your vfilter down. If the vfilter will always be built on the the field Acive then you need to create a logical vailable and then try:

filter="Active = Var->vfilter" Where the var filter is a simple true false

Charlie, I had a go at this and got the filter work for active and inactive. See attached. Will need some thought for the 'All' criteria. Note I did it an easy way in that I created new variable to achieve my goal and modified your select case

Hope this helps

Charlie,

Your sample will work by making a couple minor changes as per the snippet below.
Code:
IF a_dlg_button = "changedradio"
Select
Case vRadio = "Active Employees"
vfilter = "Active=.t."
Mode = "Active Employees"
Current_Filter = "Active Employees"
a_dlg_button = ""
Case vRadio = "Inactive Employees"
vfilter = "Active=.f."
Mode = "Inactive Employees"
Current_Filter = "Inactive Employees"
a_dlg_button = ""
Case vRadio = "All Employees"
[B][COLOR=Red]vfilter = ".t."[/COLOR][/B]
Mode = "All Employees"
Current_Filter = "All Employees"
a_dlg_button = ""
END SELECT
a_dlg_button = ""
[B][COLOR=Red]browseObj1.queryrun(vFilter)[/COLOR][/B]
end if
browseObj1 is a pointer to the browse object. So any methods that you would normally use against a standard browse work in this case as well. If you look at the code that the genie created for the browse navigation buttons you will see this.

You can also remove the initial filter from the browse definition.
Code:
browseObj1_browse_definition = <<%xml%
<browse width="1001" height="578" gridline_horizontal="yes" gridline_vertical="yes" data_entry_style="default" row_height="16"> [B][COLOR=Red]filter=vfilter[/COLOR][/B]

Tim:
These are the XML lines of code created by the genie.
The Active, Inactive filters work when copied to the Browse Line in the XML section.
The All Employees code created by the genie does not work when copied to the Browse Line in the XML section.
I will keep trying

Re: Almost have it working Xdialog Browse

Don't use any filter in that line unless you want the data filtered initially.

Code:
'<browse width="1001" height="578" gridline_horizontal="yes" gridline_vertical="yes" data_entry_style="default" row_height="16"
The BrowseObj1.queryrun will handle your choices as per my previous post.
Did you try the changes I suggested?
I only changed the 'All' filter and added the queryrun line (the lines in red) and your sample filtered correctly including 'All'

Tim,

I don't know how you do it. I would love copy of your book of knowledge on Alpha. The only way I usually locate things like your solution is in the helpfile or it appears after the . when you type in the object. Neither showed this solution.

You have done it again.
