Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Strange Request

On a form I want to have a caller field and I have it check if the caller field is a member. This is ok. What I want to add is a scrolling box on the right side of the screen that shows all the caller fields (from first to last) as they are entered on the left side of screen.
    Scroll Box
Exp. 1st Caller 1st Caller, data, data
Next Caller is logged 2nd Caller, data, data
Next Caller is logged 3rd Caller, data, data

As you work on the left side, a box could list every Caller in order as soon as you enter the info on the left. I just want a live time log scrolling down the left of the screen which will be stored in a daily log.

    Hard to explain

Sounds like a browse of the table where you are entering the caller data. May seem non intuitive but you can do that. Form based on a table and a browse of that table on the form.

      Stan,

I see what you are saying. This is actually for a Ham Radio club. As they call in he will select the CAll Sign and that will auto-fill in the first name. Then the next call sign comes in and same. The browse on the right should be able to keep a list of these call signs in the order they came in. The browse on the right has to be updated and visible all the time, while call signs are coming in. It's hard to expain. How do I make a browse of a table on the same form that would be continually current?

          Stan,

I cannot do anything with any of the 4 files. Alpha won't open them, my database doesn't see them. I am still a very green horn, but I'm good with PC's and files.

            Re: Strange Request

You'll have to open Alpha to a database you already have, right click in the control panel table/set area, choose Add, navigate to where you extracted the files, and add the table to your database.

Then just open the form based on that table (asigns). I think I gave it the name "theform".

              Stan,

That is basically what I have already. I need the browse to automatically add too from the information typed on the left, without ever going to the browse. As you enter a record on the right it appears after the last record entered, automatically.

Is that posible. Like append to, but visible real time.

                  Re: Strange Request

Doesn't my sample do that? If you enter a new record in the fields to the left it will appear in the browse once you navigate to another record (new or prior).

Nothing will appear until the record is saved because it doesn't exist until it is saved.

                    Stan,

Your sample overwrites the one on the left, not add to it. When saved. I need the one on the left to be the entry point and the one on the left to continually display a growing list.

                    Scott.... thanks.

                      Re: Strange Request

So if you move the fields on the left to the right and move the browse to the left.......

But your diagram looks like you want data entry on the left and the display list of all the data entered on the right.

                        See attached.
One table with the Hyperlink detail and 2 Browses attached - from the same table - for navigation purposes.

                        Browse1 with all Hyperlinks

Browse 2 with Alias to Hyperlinks.

The browses are set up as "OnRowDblClick" and take you to the target.

As Stan says you need to save the record before it will appear in a Browse.

Are you creating a new record before entering data?

I have driven myself potty using a Browse and NOT selecting New Record.
