Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    display the value of the filter on the form

    When I run a query how can I display the query value on the form?

    I been playing with this and found s system variable - system->current_filter but it just displays .t. value. I than try running an action - Refresh Display - but this also didnt work as the display value remains .t.

    It will be very nice to have a variable showing the value of the query that displays the forms.

    Thanks,

    Try designing a calculated field with the expression

    current_filter_expn()

    and place that on the form.
    There can be only one.

      Stan, now I am lost. i should have started that I am new to Alpha programming. about a month into it.

      I could certainly create the calculated field BUT have values do I assign to it?
      I create a query under query by form or Genie BUT dont know where the query values are for me to assign them to a calculated field.

      Thanks,
      Raul

        Raul,
        with the form in design mode, click on the xy toolbar button and type in
        Code:
        cfx=current_filter_expression()
        Then from the dragdrop list, choose cfx from the calculated field section and drag it onto your form.

          some_calculated_fieldname = current_filter_expn()

          then place some_calculated_fieldname on the form.
          Make sure you edit the properties for this calculated field after dropping it on the form and set the display format characters to enough to display the result.
          There can be only one.

            What the heck am i missing?
            I created a calculated field cfx = current_filter_expn()
            put the field into the form.

            when I start the form it is blank as it should; however as soon as I run a query County="essex" where county is the field, it gives me the matched records BUT the cfx field shows .t. I want it to show the query value of county="essex"

            thanks,

              Mike, I did cfx=current_filter_expn() but when I execute a query it simply shows .t.

              I want it to show fieldname="value" or whatever was executed in the query

                Re: display the value of the filter on the form

                This is a working example of what I think you want Raul.
                Look at the form TEST.
                I have noticed a "bit of a funny" in that the field with the value of the Query from the standard Form Query sometimes shows .t. rather than the value. Seems random, so you will have to test this out.
                Sorry to be rambling on a bit, but on first form load, you will get the .t..
                Run a Query and you will still get .t..
                Close form and reopen and the field will be as anticipated.

                  Re: display the value of the filter on the form

                  I agree that based on Ted's example, the calculated field value on the form using CURRENT_FILTER_EXPN() is not working as expected. Attached is an alternative that uses a variable that defines the filter expression for the query, that filter expression variable is assigned as a form session variable, and the filter variable is placed on the form from the dragdrop list. That works as needed.
