Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Odd Internal Error Concerning Alpha's Source Code

I have this script which goes through all of the forms of an application and changes the appearance of buttons. It has worked fine on V10.5 until now. For a given button, it attempts to change the backgroung color with the statement:
    Code:
    eval("pFrm."+cObject+".Fill.accent_color") = trim(pColr.cnew_back)
When reaching this assignment statement, an error message appears stating
"Source code (not on your machine): c\dev\a5v10\src\engine\GENERIC\au_props.cpp at line 2332."

Likewise, it states that "pFrm.BUTTON4.fill.accent_color subproperty cannot be assigned to"

While I have the development version installed, I do not have a "c:\dev" subdirectory at all. Why would Alpha be looking there? Any thoughts?

Have you tried to compact your db?
    Perhaps an old deleted form?

Alpha Five is not looking at your machine for c:\dev, that's what it says (not on your machine). If you look at the complete error message, it is asking you to send the error to Alpha for debugging. That path and filename is relevant to Alpha engineers to track down the exact location of the error.

        Hi Steve,
Care to share the rest of that script? It sounds interesting for those who are migrating their apps from older versions and want to update its look.

First and foremost, thank you all for responding.

Gabe: It is time for me to do a packing of the DB once all users are off the system. But I doubt that a deleted form by the same exact name was having an effect. But I could be wrong. (BTW, Yea NY Giants!!!)

Lenny: I saw that message. When looking under support, I saw the many categories of support including paid maintenance. So I narrowed it to a bug report or a messageboard posting. I thought that if I did the latter, I could always do a bug report later. Also, I thought that you might catch the messageboard posting which you did.

MoGrace: I will gladly post the script at a later point when I have some free time. But as of now, it isn't fully polished, if you know what I mean. Certain things (e.g. my naming conventions, the path names, etc.) are currently hardcoded making it not very portable.

Please submit it as a bug report so that it gets routed appropriately.

Did you really have to rub it in?!
Didn't we beat the crap out of the Giants?
Didn't Drew Breeze take a knee at the 5 yard line to spare them more humiliation?
I think the whole playoff system needs to be changed when the 6th seeds wins the super bowel 2 years on a row! It's nuts.
