Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    What causes a text message to send 2 pages instead of one?

    I have an automatic text that I send out and all works fine except for the text gets broken into 2 pages.

    example of text that gets sent

    1 of 2
    FRM:Anson Golf Club
    SUBJ:Flights
    MSG:Times-Flights
    1:30 Champ 62-65
    1:30 First 66-67
    1:30 Second 68-71
    8:00 Third 72-73
    8:00
    (Con't) 2 of 2
    Fourth 74-75
    8:00 Fight 76-83

    (End)

    All information is perfect, but I would like to get rid of the "1 of 2" and the "(Con't) 2 of 2" so that the "Fourth 74-75" would be on correct line.

    Below is my expression

    dim t as p

    t = table.open("cell")

    dim pm as P
    pm.attachments = ""
    pm.lrelated = .T.
    pm.from = "[email protected]"
    pm.from_alias = "Golf Club"
    pm.to = "golfers"
    pm.subject = "Flights"
    pm.message = "Times-Flights"\
    +crlf(1)+tbl.champ+" ""Champ "+tablemin("tourney","Current='Y'.and.Flight='Championship'",str("satscore"))+"-"+tablemax("tourney","Current='Y'.and.Flight='Championship'",str("satscore"))\
    +crlf(1)+tbl.First+" "+"First "+tablemin("tourney","Current='Y'.and.Flight='First'",str("satscore"))+"-"+tablemax("tourney","Current='Y'.and.Flight='First'",str("satscore"))\
    +crlf(1)+tbl.Second+" "+"Second "+tablemin("tourney","Current='Y'.and.Flight='Second'",str("satscore"))+"-"+tablemax("tourney","Current='Y'.and.Flight='Second'",str("satscore"))\
    +crlf(1)+tbl.third+" "+"Third "+tablemin("tourney","Current='Y'.and.Flight='Third'",str("satscore"))+"-"+tablemax("tourney","Current='Y'.and.Flight='Third'",str("satscore"))\
    +crlf(1)+tbl.Fourth+" "+"Fourth "+tablemin("tourney","Current='Y'.and.Flight='Fourth'",str("satscore"))+"-"+tablemax("tourney","Current='Y'.and.Flight='Fourth'",str("satscore"))\
    +crlf(1)+tbl.Fifth+" "+"Fifth "+tablemin("tourney","Current='Y'.and.Flight='Fifth'",str("satscore"))+"-"+tablemax("tourney","Current='Y'.and.Flight='Fifth'",str("satscore"))\
    email_send2(pm)

    Thanks, Tony

    I would suggest that you zip up your application with some data
    and submit it here.That would enable others to test, make a change or 2 and submit back to you.

      Change your function to this:

      email_send2(pm,"",.t.,.f.,.f.)

      The last logical value tells the email to NOT wrap after the 72nd character.,

      Its my favorite parameter because it was added maybe in 2006 to A5V6 -- it was my very first suggestion to Alpha around the time I was building one of the first web applications ever written in Alpha Five.

        Re: What causes a text message to send 2 pages instead of one?

        The line length/wrap was brought up a while back and I believe it was fixed.
        Also, I noted (might be a typo):
        +crlf(1)+tbl.champ+" ""Champ "+t

        Looks like it should be:
        +crlf(1)+tbl.champ+" "+"Champ "+t

        or:
        +crlf(1)+tbl.champ+" Champ "+t

          Thanks Steve and G
          I fixed the typo and changed the function

          dim t as p

          t = table.open("cell")

          dim pm as P
          pm.attachments = ""
          pm.lrelated = .T.

          pm.from_alias = "Anson Golf Club"
          pm.to = "[email protected]"
          pm.subject = "Flights"
          pm.message = "Times-Flights"\
          +crlf(1)+tbl.champ+" "+"Champ "+tablemin("tourney","Current='Y'.and.Flight='Championship'",str("satscore"))+"-"+tablemax("tourney","Current='Y'.and.Flight='Championship'",str("satscore"))\

                This forum and its members have been incredibly helpful to me. As a rank noobie I hesitate to answer for fear of looking like a fool but could it be that the message exceeds the 160 character count for text messages. I believe that the character count includes more than just the characters in the message - addressee, etc.

                  Ah, did not see that it was a text message, Jim is right, 140-160 character max per "page".

                    edit..
                    I too got thrown off by "text"..which means so many things in alpha..
                    Yeh..seems to exceed 160. Good catch.
                    Some providers are limited to even less than that. The fact that you are sending your messages from alpha, you don't run into the limitation when composing the message. Try to send the same message from your phone.

                      That was exactly the issue. Thank You!!!!
                      I don't know enough to be even called a "rank noobie", but I really enjoy using Alpha Five.
                      Thanks also to G and Steve,

                        I have been lurking for awhile and have learned a great deal from the posts of Steve Wood and G Gabriel as well as others. It was nice that my first post was my very very small contribution to the knowledge of this board. Alpha is a great product made even better by the members of this board.
