Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

printing a report - selecting records

    Hi all,

I'm trying to print a report that is based on a set. I have "invoices" as the parent and "details" as the child.

I have run a query which is showing 26 parent records. My invoice report is supposed to print one "report" per invoice (parent record).

Theoretically I should have 1 "printout/file" containing 26 reports (headers, footers, etc for each of the 26). What it is actually doing is creating 1 report with 1 header and footer for the "report" that matches my query.

Please let me know if my description is unclear and I can try to explain further.

    Thank!
    John P.

Take a look at the AlphaSports sample database to see if can glean any clues. It has a Reports button for invoices which allows you to select by invoice number, single or range of dates, etc.

Without seeing your query and database it's hard to offer much more help.
    There can be only one.

John, does your report layout include a group break on the invoice id?

Re: printing a report - selecting records

hi guys, thanks for the responses. Group break is an interesting thought. When running the report on a single parent record it works normally but when choosing multiple parent records it fails to properly show the data.

John, sounds like its time for you to spend some time in the Desktop User Guide chapter on reports. Group breaks are often necessary and understanding when to use them (or when not to) in an important rung to climb on your personal learning curve.

Re: printing a report - selecting records

If you use (action) scripting to print the report, you can specify a filter for "invoices". That should give you one report for each parent.

Re: printing a report - selecting records

I'm facing an issue with report. I created a report using the Quick Report Genie using a table.
But on preview, it is just a plain scren, not even the headers showing!

                  What could be the reason.
Please advise,I'm new to alpha 5

                  Thanks
                  Renny

Re: printing a report - selecting records

Something in your report layout cannot be evaluated at print time. Double check your filter or query. Double check all the calculated fields. If you can't solve this one yourself, attach a zipped copy of the database to a reply post here with instructions telling us how to find and run the report (in context). The option to upload attachments is available if you begin a reply, then click the "Go Advanced" button.

Thank u Tom. There were some thing wrong in the startup form which I copied from the sample aplication by Alpha. When I removed the sample form and related tables from my project, reports starts working.
