I have a posting operation setup to post based on a 1 field linking key between a master and a transaction table. Can I alter this post operation to have a from and to numeric date formated as 201201 where this number represents January 2012? I would be having to add the from and to fields as a numeric field I guess inside the transaction table purchasers.dbf. That way, the master table "current.dbf" looks at the transactioin table and picks a value for two additional fields based on the linking key.
Example as shown below:
Table Current containing a field "Wlpurc" with a character value of 009573. In the past, the post looks at this 009573 and matches it up in table purchasers.dbf (which has constant information) and it populates two fields in table current.dbf based on that link and uses the values in purchasers.dbf to do this.
009573 is the link in this example and it find the matches in the "purchasers.dbf" field and it puts the character field values of XYZ Natural Gas and 1731234567 in there into the appropriate fields in current.dbf. It goes through hunderds or maybe a thousand records or more in table current.dbf and does this in seconds.
Now, XYZ Natural Gas has changed their name to ABC Natural Gas effective with the current sales periods to have a number 12612345678 for example. So, if I report a current period record with 009573 in this example in the current.dbf field, it needs to also look at an additional field in current.dbf called prodyrmo, which just happens to be a numeric field. If this needs a character field to work, then I will have to do a separate conversion somewhere because Prodyrmo must stay a numeric field.
If the value in prodyrmo is 201212 or greater, then the results need to be the ABC Natural Gas and 12612345678. If the value is 201111 or a lessor number, then the post operation needs to pick the old one which is XYZ Natural Gas and 17312345678.
I just used the 12345678 for convenience in this illustration.
Is this something I can do within this post and not use a programming technique each month? Or should we start over and use another method of accomplishing this task?
Thanks,
Bruce
