Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Alpha Five Documentor

    Hello

Can anyone advise on whether you can still buy the A5 Documentor (great tool) and if so, does it work with Desktop V10.5 and V11.

    Kind regards

        Thanks Dave.

For $19 the AIMS Doc Analyser looks like a really useful tool.

          Re: Alpha Five Documentor

          Hello Keith

The issue I have with the documentor is that under A5V8 it sticks it under its own folder under the main A5V8 folder within C:\Prgram Files.

You click in the Control Panel, chose Addins and it is there.

When you do the same with V10 it doesn't show it under the Addins.

          Any ideas?

          Kind Regards

            Alex,

            Any ideas? Not really.

Had it working in V10, so I just installed in V11 and there it is, working as expected.

Have you placed it in the Alpha V10 folder Alex?
You need to run the install again Alex. If yoy have the same license key it should work OK.

                Ted,

I have spoken to Alex and he has installed it correctly. One thought is the OS, but not sure how relevant that is. Win 7? I'm still on XP Pro.

                  Hi Giles

I have tried that and it doesn't make any difference.

Keith suggested it may be down to the fact that I trying to run it on Windows 7 and my Alpha is installed in C:\Program Files (x86)

However, my colleague has it installed on XP and the only way he can get it to work is to copy the application and then run the Documentor from within V8.

Why are things never simple eh??

I have bought the AIMS DataCom from Carl so when he sends me a license I will try that?

Thanks for your help. It is much appreciated.

                  Kind regards

Alex, I just loaded A5Doc in Win 7 to V11 and not had any problems, so I doubt it's the OpSys.

I will try it on a machine. It might be a Windows permissions issue.

                      I will let you know.

Tried it on a different machine. Still didn't work.

Alas just have to wait and see what Carl's AIMS App Analyser does.

Frustrating, but it is what it is.

There will be a way around it.

                        Thanks for both your help.

If you have downloaded the latest version and have a license key it should work.
You do need the most recent though.
