Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    email from embedded browse

    Good Evening,

    I have a form with an embedded browse. I want to place a button in each row of the browse which sends and email when pressed. I want to send information from three of the fields in the relevant row.

    I currently use Outlook for my emailing.

    I have tried using the browse controls but with no luck so far.

    I would welcome a pointer in the right direction.

    Many thanks,

    Larry Gordon

      Thanks for that Stan. I now have a button in each row and it successfully generates an email. My struggle was with the code. My next problem is, can I add row field data into the 'message' area of the email? My current code is:

      function Actions_ButtonClick as v( event as C,data as C, row as N)
      dim pm as P
      dim ps as P
      if (email_smtp_open(ps,"mail.m-press.biz", 25, "lgordon", "password")) then
      pm.to = "[email protected], [email protected]"
      pm.cc = ""
      pm.from = "[email protected]"
      pm.subject = "Alpha Message"
      pm.message = Call_Detail->Ser_No
      pm.attachments = ""
      pm.html_message = "<b>New Service Call</b>"
      email_smtp_send(pm,ps)
      end if
      email_smtp_close(ps)
      end function

      Many thanks,
      Larry Gordon.

        If you're speaking of this line

        pm.message = Call_Detail->Ser_No

        it seems ok to me (should work) but the email function might want it quoted.

        pm.message = quote(Call_Detail->Ser_No)
        There can be only one.

          That code may work somewhere else, on a browse I use the object explorer to help me put values from the browse object into code.

          You should use something like
          topparent:<browse_name>:<object_name>.value

          so your code should look like this: (assuming Browse1 is the name of your Browse...)

          pm.message = topparent:Browse1:Ser_No.value

          There is other code that is generated when the event code is generated and should remain in the event at the top of all other code....

          Code:
          	this.Set_Viewport_row(row)
          	if this.Table_Get().Mode_Get() > 0 then
          		this.Commit()
          	end if

            Re: email from embedded browse

            Larry,
            On top of what Al said, I might recommend that you compile the field values into a variable before the email event. Then you can check the integrity of the script capturing the proper information by showing the variable in a message box (msgbox()) before it goes to the email portion. Then for the message line....pm.message = compiled_values_variable. And when it all is working well, remove or comment out the msgbox().
            Code:
            function Actions_ButtonClick as v( event as C,data as C, row as N)

            'get value into variable
               dim compiled_values as C
               [COLOR="#FF0000"]compiled_values[/COLOR]=parentform:Browse1:Ser_No.value + " - "+ parentform:Browse1:<otherfieldname>.value     <and so on>
               msgbox(compiled_values)

            'email the info
            dim pm as P
            dim ps as P
            if (email_smtp_open(ps,"mail.m-press.biz", 25, "lgordon", "password")) then
            pm.to = "[email protected], [email][email protected][/email]"
            pm.cc = ""
            pm.from = "[email protected]"
            pm.subject = "Alpha Message"
            pm.message =[COLOR="#FF0000"] compiled_values[/COLOR]
            pm.attachments = ""
            pm.html_message = "<b>New Service Call</b>"
            email_smtp_send(pm,ps)
            end if
            email_smtp_close(ps)
            end function

              Re: email from embedded browse

              Firstly, I thank you all for help, for which I am extremely grateful. I believe I am almost there! The email is being sent, I am seeing the correct data in the message, as per Mike's advice. But the email message was only showing the HTML comment. So I commented out the HTML line and the data appeared!! Perhaps having that line in was my problem all along?? My current code is:

              this.Set_Viewport_row(row)
              if this.Table_Get().Mode_Get() > 0 then
              this.Commit()
              end if
              function Actions_ButtonClick as v( event as C,data as C, row as N)
              'get value into variable
              dim compiled_values as C
              compiled_values=parentform:Browse1:Ser_No.value + " - "+ parentform:Browse1:item.value
              msgbox(compiled_values)
              'email the info
              dim pm as P
              dim ps as P
              if (email_smtp_open(ps,"mail.m-press.biz", 25, "lgordon", "password")) then
              pm.to = "[email protected], [email protected]"
              pm.cc = ""
              pm.from = "[email protected]"
              pm.subject = "Alpha Message"
              pm.message = compiled_values
              pm.attachments = ""
              'pm.html_message = "<b>New Service Call</b>"
              email_smtp_send(pm,ps)
              end if
              email_smtp_close(ps)
              end function
              And it's working fine.
              Many many thanks.
