Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I have the license number and activation key, but no actual install disk since I ordered as a download. I do have all the original files that I used to install v10. Anyone know the actual install filename?

A5v10.5 is already installed on the new computer. Does it need to be uninstalled first, or can I install over the existing files? I am using 10.5 now, so also need to run the patch for that, after the install.

                Hey Ted!!!!!
I just noticed your statement about where the activation key can be found.
I looked in %appdata%\AlphaSoftware, but there are lots of not so obvious choices once you get in there.
Care to help people out with the missing info ?

You will not be able to get an activation key for v 10.5. That came up pretty suddenly as I use v10.5 and that's all I need. However Alpha wants the income stream so they will sell the desktop version of A5 V11 (It's Alpha Anywhere but if you have a desktop license number it installs as Desktop version 11) That works and has some nice features, mainly SQL support. Now though it's a 3 year license. I was told that it will still work after 3 years but won't get updates, but we'll see. (The license appears to say they have a right to turn it off.) I have an old app, and all I need is v10.5 but this is OK as long as Selwyn, Richard and Cian are around. I would worry if they sell out. We are all not getting any younger. I had a need that came up recently so I got a few licenses for the Developer and Runtime. Still playing with it. It more or less runs v10.5 apps. Some things aren't supported so I am having to spend time fixing it, which I wasn't planning on. Some of the errors are mine, some are things that are no longer supported. So on the one app where it matters I have to test everything. Once done though it should be better in SQL. Something to do in my spare time. What appears to be the activation key appears in the same place but is a lot longer.
One nice thing, when you go to Upsize to SQL it checks for errors. There were some I was not aware of and a bunch of date errors that was not aware of.

Also, FYI, you can't open an app in the new version and go back to v10.5. It won't work. OPEN A COPY ONLY.
