Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Highlight Row on Browse

    Hello

I have a browse which shows for each row the work done.

    i.e

    Dig garden
    Plant seeds
    Water seeds

    etc

Is it possible to have a button which enables me to enter a string (plant) and then point to the relevant row on browse BUT also changing that row to a different colour to highlight
    it to the user.

If so can I also have previous and next buttons which I can use to navigate to the relevant row, highlighting the row as and when it gets there.

So in the example above my string = seeds, it will go to Plant Seeds.
When I hit next it will then go to Water seeds.
Hitting Previous would then take me back to Plant Seeds.

Its the highlighting of the row in the browse with a different colour that I need some guidance on.

Thanks for your help. It is very much appreciated.

    Kind regards

Don't remember if it was available in V10. Can you set the current row properties?

        Many Thanks

The object explorer tells me the object property is

          topparent:Browse1.Currentrow.Color

which will of course be different if your object name is different. You might need to repaint the object or form after changing the setting via xbasic.

Under Edit Display Properties you can set a condition whereby a var that matches the field value will set the font & background color. You would need to do this for each field in the row, but it should work. So if you have a search or lookup setting this variable, you can use the OnChange event to fetch the record and it should refresh the color.

Trying this with a parent-child form to set the colour of a selected row in the browse via code seems to have no effect despite various refreshes.

Re Edit Display Properties - can you tell me where this is? I have looked around form design, browse design and cannot find this.

Sorry John, its not Display properties rather it is Color Equation.

Double click on browse column, right click to open properties, go to the Other tab and you will find checkboxes for Color and Font equations and a genie where you can select one or more row colors with a condition for each.

Edit Display is for the column.

Many thanks - got this working - never thought to approach it this way via a variable even I have used the colour equation many times.
