Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    PDF Failure _ Win 10

Has anyone had PDF creation failure after a *major* Windows 10 Pro update in the last year? I have had it twice now and have corrected the issue by reinstalling the A5v11 maintenance patch over the existing installation. Perhaps there is an installation trick to avoid this issue.

If there is no way to avoid the issue, I'd like to:

    (a) detect that a pdf was NOT created (an error is not apparent); and,
    (b) more elegantly install the amyuni stuff vs. having the user manually reinstall the A5v11 patch.

This is a charity install with a succession of volunteer users so they don't need this kind of hastle.

    Thanks for all guidance...

I suspect that running the app as Administrator tge first time after a Win update will overcome the problem.
You might need a compatability check also.
    Thats what I found anyway.

Apologies to anyone I haven't managed to upset yet.
You are held in a queue and I will get to you soon.

This causes us major headaches every time Microsoft decide to update the AMyuni drivers.

We get our users to delete the Alpha5printer then run the app as administrator. Then we get them to create a PDF and 'OK' the alpha request to reinstall the printer.

I just noticed on one of our servers that an Amyuni update was in the Windows Update queue - have hidden that, now need to check the other 8 servers.

App runs with Win 7 compatibility. Tried running as Administrator first time after update and PDF creation was NOT restored. No joy in the rust-belt.

A5V11 doesn't need to run in compatibility mode, but that shouldn't affect the fix.

Are you getting the prompt from Alpha to reinstall the drivers? If not, delete the AlphaFivePrinterV4p5 via control panel and try again

            Jon, thanks for following.

Installing the full maintenance patch over the existing install without deleting the amyuni driver fixes the issue and appears less complicated for tech-lite volunteers. But I'd like to avoid any required user intervention.

This issue has been around for a couple of years and apparently is present in a5v12. Is there really no better resolution path? A new amyuni driver?

              John,

I've seen another solution posted on this board where the user runs AmyuniV4\InstallAmyuniPrinters.exe as Administrator which is in the Alpha installation directory

Okay, ran the install exe as Administrator which displayed a dialog showing an install log being created. Opened the A5 app and tried creating a PDF...it threw an error saying that the amyuni driver "was not activated -30". Ran the A5v11 maintenance patch and the issue was fixed.

Maybe a button for the user to install amyuni from someplace in the app might do it. Using something like sys_shell()? Just a thought of something I would try.
