Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Enumeration of Windows Taskbar

    I am looking for a method to use within Alpha Five to list the handles or names of the windows in the Windows taskbar, just those windows, nothing else.

    I think it can be done in Alpha calling some windows APIs, but it is not that straightforward, and there may be some gotchas with Alpha's API interface.

    Perhaps someone else has an idea of an easier way it could be done?

    Thanks!

    Re: Enumeration of Windows Taskbar

    Is this of any help? (as a starting point?)

    Code:
    all_win = sys_id_enum()
    real_win = ""
    for each foo in all_win
    	if sys_id_position_get(foo) = "Taskbar" .or. sys_id_position_get(foo) = "Desktop"
    		real_win = real_win+foo+crlf()
    	end if
    next
    ui_msg_box("",real_win)
    end

    ? real_win

        Interesting difference from my code I was trying. I don't have maximized windows, so I was always getting size numbers in my tests using similar code. I had eliminated all windows that have 0 height or 0 width. In addition, I can get rid of all of Alpha's Xdialog and Alpha MDI windows (with a small risk of eliminating a real window that has the same name) from the list, but that still left me with a lot of window processes (many on the system tray). I did try and see what happened in minimizing, maximizing and restoring the "non-windows" programs, but that brought up windows that I could not eliminate.

        Just to be clear, I'm not talking about programs minimized to the taskbar, but all application windows that you would see if you used Alt-Tab repeatedly.

        The main issue with the windows API methods is the issue of the method to do a Win API callback function within Alpha. I don't believe it is documented how to do this in Alpha, and may be impossible to do (although I could definitely pass a function pointer, but it may not be compatible to Windows)

        Dave - That link was not useful, other windows API pages do give some answers, but they all involve function callbacks.

          Re: Enumeration of Windows Taskbar

          Using a IsWindowVisible API, I can eliminate most of the undesired windows from the Sys_ID_Enum() function. I'm not sure if there are any real gotchas, but it looks OK.

          For my current need, I think this will work just find.

          If it could enumerate the Top level Window's windows that would be great great!

          But it would be really great if Alpha Five could handle API function callbacks, which at least according to this, it does not.
