Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    PDF_Append Problem

I'm at the early stages of migrating from v9 to v11.

The first problem I've run across is with the PDF_Append command.

Under v11 Developer edition on a Windows XP machine it works fine.

Under v11 Runtime on a Windows 7 machine, it properly creates the first .pdf but apparently every time it tries to add an additional .pdf to it, it throws and error: "Could not append PDF File. PDF Printer is not installed"

Before I submit a bug report, does anybody have any good theories?

    Re: PDF_Append Problem

    John,
I had plenty of problems creating PDF's and it is V7 related. Under XP all was fine. It seems the issue has to do with a V7 driver.
The solution I use is to run the program as administrator.
You could also consider to run in XP compatible mode and reinstall your Amyuni printer driver.

    Hope this helps.

      Re: PDF_Append Problem

I just tried V11 Full (most recent update) on an app that runs OK in V10.5. The PDF append/create failed. I am running on XP Pro SP3. Recommend reporting this as a bug, with an app for Alpha to use as an example.

        Re: PDF_Append Problem

I suspect a Windows 7 issue involving the Amyuni driver. Try this first.

Preview a report and see if you are able to save it as a pdf using the built in button on the preview toolbar. If it does not work then there is a thread on how to manage the Amyuni driver in Win 7 which involves
-making sure you have the latest driver version
-setting the driver to use the null port, and
        -installing/running A5 as admin
-deleting the one-note printer (in Win 7)

Regarding the latter, I have done a couple of successful installs using the runtime where everything worked without deleting the one note printer so do this as a last resort.

If you can save as pdf under Win 7 and pdf_append still fails the problem is more specific and you should report a bug.

          Thanks for the input all.

          Based on some additional testing...

          V11 Under Windows 7
Printing to a .pdf works fine.
Previewing a report and saving as a .pdf works fine.
Using pdf_append function within a script successfully creates the first .pdf but doesn't add any additional pdfs to it and gives an error that the printer is not installed.
Using the PDF Tools option under the tools menu fails.
Running as administrator or in XP mode seems to create other issues.

          I think I'll submit a bug report.

I've already received a preliminary reply (wow that was fast) that it may be solved in the next release.

Just wating for a pre-release link to the runtime version patch in order to test it.

John, Selwyn's reply to you already included the link that you said you are waiting for.

Certainly was fast. Of course, you helped out by isolating the problem thus freeing them from the need to research a vague complaint.

                    Hi Lenny,

The link only included full and appserver links. This one is runtime.

I'm happy to report that due to the diligent efforts of the Alpha folks (spearheaded by Jerry) a fix for the printer driver is in the latest build. Initial tests look good.
