Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    error message on set

If I try to open a form based on this set, or if I doubleclick on the set I get the following error message :

error loading:c:\accounting\main_clients.set:error adding relation child "inv_hedr":the process can not access the file because it is used by another process. c:\accounting\inv_hedr.dbf

I have tried to close and reopen a11 and even did a reinstall. All the tables in the set open fine when accessed alone. Also restored one version back.

    Any ideas?

    Re: error message on set

This can happen when making many changes to a form and then hanging A5
    Procedures I would follow;-

The other process could be non A5 - close other apps
During developing the file may have been locked by the server (or OS) - worst case scenario, reboot.

Various things I try but not traditionally sound...
rename the table, try copy the table giving it the original name
see if Windows explorer can rename the file

      Re: error message on set

I have tried overwriting the inv_hedr files from an older backup. I removed some external programs, ran anti virus scan, tried naming and renaming the set, rebooting, uninstalling and reinstalling a5. Still getting the same error message.

Check your shared and private paths for files starting with $$$ and ending with .mpx. These are temporary query files. If Alpha thinks one of them is still current for a table it will report the table in use.

In your set definition are you enabling referential integrity?

                  STAN,
Not sure what to do with that code. Do I just copy and paste it into an empty script and run it?

                    Re: error message on set

You put it in a function named clean_tables. The line at the top tells you the function name.

Have no idea how do to this. I did try pasting the code into an empty script, and ran it. It didn't do anything.

                        Re: error message on set

creat a function instead of a script named clean_tables just like you would a script. Make sure all the stuff is gone that alpha automatically puts into the function. Copy the code into that function and then call it from a script or a form or whereever just like you would call any script that is native to alpha.

So if i put a button on a menu. The only command the button needs is: clean_tables()?
Is there some message that indicates that this function is executing?

Just noticed, there are 3 functions. Do they each have to be created and executed?
