Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Bank Transaction Printing

In a bank transaction, a client opens an account say 5000, then teller prints it in a bank book, next transaction at a later date would be a deposit or withdraw,How do we print in alpha five the next transaction without printing the previous transaction?the program should increment printing in the passbook/bankbook line by line without printing the previous transactions.

    Hi Jetson,

Have a logical field in the record which gets set to True after the record has been printed. Now only print records that are not True.

I see, will it print on the supposed line number? e.g. i have three records and two are marked printed(Y) but the third is (N) will it print on the third line of a passbook/Bankbook?

That is a whole different ball game.

I suggest you change the font colour to white if it has already been printed.

            Hi Jetson,

You must have some sort of superbrain with all the different questions you are asking. The assumption is, they are for all different projects. I only ask out of curiosity.

Alpha is very good with security, the problem is the developer and understanding what the security requirements are from the customers point of view. Security can be made to do many things given different situations. eg, who has access to what and why. does the data need to be encrypted. if any data needs to be exported, what format is it in? Take your pick.

I'll stop asking/posting then questions, but with your permission, if you do permit me to asked more then i will asked questions so that i can learn Alpha Five faster with your tips and advices as EXPERTS in ALPHA FIVE.

                Jetson,
I follow your threads and answer your questions if I can. I believe what Keith was suggesting is somewhat the same as I seem to wonder. In total, the posts that you have made are somewhat difficult to assimilate into an understanding of what the purpose or goal of what the application that you are working on is. Or is it many.

Thank you Mike for answering my questions, in fact you did answered it with a sample database, like others who helped me, Tom, Stan, and special mention to Ted who PM me and shared a working database and others who helped me.With all the threads that i posted, they are simply posted out of IGNORANCE or lack of knowledge especially on alpha five, I am curious on what could be done in alpha and how to do it in alpha,at present im still learning alpha five and in fact this is my third install on three computers of evaluating alpha five.I'm not working on a project(s), there are things in my mind that i can do in vb6 and vb.net that i can't do in alpha five and with eagerness and lack of time to read and learn another language i thought of posting and posting questions that my mind is not capable of answering, with the hope to be answered by members who want to help., again i'm so sorry to bombard this msgboard with elementary and with no quality questions.

Jet, I'm surprised you're still "evaluating" Alpha Five. I won't be responding to any more of your posts going forward. Volunteer time is limited. I prefer to help folks who are actually working on projects. Don't have time for tire kickers, especially those who abuse Alpha's free evaluation offer. -- tom

My guess is that if you were talking about an enterprise application, Alpha desktop may not be the right tool - IF you are using dbf. My sense is that dbf security is okay for regular use, but not for a bank. If you are using SQL AND xdialog, you probably are safe. If you are using SQL & WEB, likewise you are probably safe.I'm not sure how secure active link tables are. But dbf & desktop or passive link tables & SQL, probably not the most secure; not for a high security operations such as banks and the like . My 2-cents.

P.S. Your English is fine and so are your questions (at least as far as I can tell). Some people are overworked and may get a little cranky on occasion. Don't let it bother you too much.
