Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Button location change in ... Win7?

I've noticed that the button location on a lot of A5's built-in message boxes are now in the lower right. I'm pretty sure they were in the bottom center before (in XP) and I think this is because of a Windows change rather than an A5 change. I'm seeing it in all versions of A5.

I've also noticed some of the built-in dialogs ending up with bold text. That can make lines so long they run outside the right edge of the dialog area. However, this problem isn't consistent so I'm not sure what's causing it.

Note - neither of these issues occur in xdialogs. They only happen with some of the built-in dialogs such as ui_msg_box(), ui_get_list(), etc.

Does anyone know if there is a setting in Windows to put the buttons back where they were before? Since all my xdialogs were designed around the previous appearance, things look rather strange to users now when some messages appear one way and others another way. I really don't want to rework all my xdialogs. (I also don't like the new button position - and it's not just because I'm an old fart that doesn't like changes. As a result, I may end up building replacements for the "messed up" A5 messages/dialogs - well, those that I haven't replaced already anyway.)

(Man, I just LOVE when people change things to make them "better" without giving me the option to leave the *#$%@&}:^$ things as they were.)

Don't know of any option to change back. I believe if you have pro or ultimate versions there is an xp compatability feature.

On the matter W7 (64)I have some funnies happening as well. When I create an embedded browse it is ok initialy and is OK when you view. Once you save and close the first time, then next time you open in design it is completely blacked out and you can't do any changes to it. It is still OK in the view mode. I found a work around was to change the style sheet and set it back again. Needed to do this every time after closing and reopening. Reported as bug - no response yet.

I just did a msg box on my Vista(32) and W7 (64) in V10 and the OK button has moved to the right. On XP it is in the centre, so looks like a windows thing.

I should have mentioned that I tried the XP compatibility thing and it didn't help.

As for the browse, have you tried double clicking in the blacked out browse? That seems to work for me.

I think I'm going to end up building my own message replacements. I also don't like the new "2 color" appearance where the text area is white and the button area is Win3d. Worse than "not liking it" is the fact that it doesn't match with the appearance of xdialogs and makes my apps look unprofessional! (or maybe just more unprofessional in some cases!?)

I did try double click. I actually reported as a bug. Never got a reply. I note on a few posts elsewhere in the forum replies to bugs are not happening. I think there may be a bug in the bug process. Probably going into junk mail.
