Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Memo Field To expand in browse as the row get the focus

I know you can expand it by touching the expanding button at the right of the memo.
I would like to expand itself just by getting to the row.
Is there a way to expand the memo field the moment the row of the browse gets focus?

    Look at this Mike
    <OBJECT>.SHOW_MEMO()

If you put the code into the On Arrive action for the field it will automatically open when Focus is on it.

Ted, thanks for coming to my rescue.
I did attempt to add that code to the browse and I got errors and no results.
I did tried in the browse event "on row change" and gives error to either <OBJECT>.SHOW_MEMO() or <OBJECT>.SHOW_description()
I did try both as I did not know how to use that command.
Also on the other event choices, gave same results.
Some how the command does not work in the browse. I did tried in a form and did not work either.
      I have attached a sample.

      Any advise?

Can't get the Browse option to work, but that's probably my "pants" coding.
Have a look at the attached.
The Description Memo Editor opens when you tab to the field in the Form, and on dblclick in the Browse.
Maybe someone els will chip in with the correct syntax for opening a Memo filed in a Browse.

Re: Memo Field To expand in browse as the row get the focus

Perhaps I am not expressing my objective.
As I was finding ways, I realize that the field memo description, shows, just one line; I want to expand it or show the entire field, either down or up.
The memo field may be comprised of many lines, As I change rows or give focus to a line in the browse, I need the memo field be shown completely, not the first line or the last line.
It can be open upon clicking the editor at the upper right hand corner button

So far, I can open the memo using the command a5_memo_editor(description.field_get() ), on row change, but it has 2 small problems.
          A) It opens in the middle of the screen.
Can it be positioned and sized?
          B) it does not read if anything was there, it appears is meant to create only.
Is there a similar command that will read the field before opens the editor?

          Any advise or suggestion?

Re: Memo Field To expand in browse as the row get the focus

            Answer to A.
You might have to convert to Xdialog and use the {Position} command.

The only other simple way is to have the Browse on the left of the Form, and an area big enough to show the description on the right.
You will have plenty of room to add text in the area without going through the Memo Editor.

Edit. If you only want Descriptions with text in them, use a Conditional Object and put the Descrioption Field in it.

Have you thought of using a Grid?

              Thanks,
I did further work with opening the editor on row change; it has more problems that the two I mentioned.
Like, if it has data needs to be close plus some other estranges behavior.
              I will explore your idea.
I did see another thread, where they open a form with just the memo field on events. The claim was that is more controllable.
              I will try you suggestion.
I have looked at grids, as I did work with them in a webpage. I have not used them in the desktop yet.
Do you think they will help with my objective?
As I hear, they are more flexible than browser.

Another take on the problem Mike.
Add a person but no Description.
Look at the options behind the button which displays the descriptions form.
Are you comfortable with Cond Obj?

Excellent, I did work something similar, by opening a form.
Crude compare to the slick sample you created.
                  Thanks, I will use yours.

I think another option is to use bubble help that displays the memo fields contents when you hover over the field in the browse.
