Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Can embedded browses have blank group summary lines as in a report?

    Hi,

Is there any way I can reproduce the attached example in an embedded desktop browse?

I think it can be done in the web grid but ideally would like to do it in an existing browse because of the complexity of the formatting conditions that already exist there.

    Thanks,

    Paul

Answer tentative yes - if you don't change the order
For each track, insert a blank child record, I presume the track is the browse sort order

      Hi Ray,

I had the same idea, I was so chuffed (pleased) that I came up with the idea until I thought it through...
Of course, any type of export/report involvement with the table would then have to deal with the artificially intoduced non-data-record...
So therefore, a no no to this cunning but flawed approach.

In the end, I badgered (pestered) and then listened to GS (here in the UK).
He also said - NO - to our idea...
He suggested using an embedded report... It works OK, but does not fully address my original requirement, as obviously it lacks all the built in features of a browse.

Any way, thanks for your reply.

      Paul

Paul, you could always use the Edit Display Format and put conditional colouring on the various racecourse names. There wouldnt be a blank line, but there would be a discernable difference in presentation.
If you wanted to get really fancy, you could use a dynamic tree to select the course, then the date, then the time, and show all the runners.

Apologies to anyone I haven't managed to upset yet.
You are held in a queue and I will get to you soon.

          Hi Ted,

I thought about that cosmetic approach as well, but my son who is the quality control guy around here insists that it reflects the existing web site presentation as closely as possible. It is what our users are used to seeing after all.
The report is a good if not perfect fit, so, we move on...

Do you want a blank line?
            A summary?
            Or, both?
For the blank line part, at the top of the Footer (or Group Footer whichever one you use to summarize) put a blank line. If you want it to match the grid, put a frame (or several). Not happy with the frame(s)? Put several variables same size as the other records' fields to mascaraed as empty records.
If you want both, blank line and summary, do the above and underneath it put the summary.
No need for blank records, other stuff I didn't comprehend, or any other byproducts of over-thinking.

Sorry Gabriel, are you responding to my immediate post above yours with the report screen grab?
If so that is how in an ideal world (minus the group totals) I would like my desktop browse to appear - See the top post...
              Thanks for the reply,

Why not put an embedded grid component supercontrol on the form instead of the browse? Sounds like you already have the grid component designed.
                    There can be only one.
