Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    geocodes and mapping addresses

    http://www.ajaxvideotutorials.com/V1...Advanced_1.swf

The above link is to a video that shows the capabilities of marking airport locations on a Google map. I have this need to mark store addresses on a map, hundreds. I'm not sure if this is exclusively a web capability (which I have no experience with) or available as a desktop capability. I have the table of addresses and have the lat-long numbers for each address. I don't need bells and whistles, just mark each location for now. I need this ASAP. Anyone have experience with this, can help me as a complete newbe in this arena, have an app for me to see, buy, copy? Thanks.

Mike, I get a 404 for the link you gave.

I know how to show locations of single stores and people, but not multiples on the same map.
If that's any help I'll send you an example using XDialog.

On the web you can show an alternate view in a grid component that shows all markers on a page for the records shown on the grid. I am guessing (but have not tried) that you can use that grid component on the desktop and therefore should be able to achieve that.

Is this only in V11 Glen?
Is it an additional feature pack item?
Any luck getting the Total Field in Bold in a Grid.

            Re: geocodes and mapping addresses

Are you looking for static or dynamic maps?
            Static:
I wrote a function that will do just that. Will test it in W7 and post it and you could donate $1,000 to charity (St Jude Children, cancer foundation)
            Dynamic:
That's a long story. I wrote a function a while back that worked just fine in Windows XP, but since Microsoft has it for me, they removed the dll that made it possible and replaced it with a different one in W7 that I don't have the time nor the inclination to explore since I decided to do the coding in google itself and the heck with Microsoft. That won't help you since its all web-based. But, it is my understanding that v10 or maybe 11 (don't have neither) has geocoding abilities. Have you looked into that?

            Here is a video clip
            static_gc..zip
            pending a little more testing.
P.S. Static is not entirely static, you could zoom in/out re size/change colors and few other things.

              Re: geocodes and mapping addresses

              G,
I have one like that too (code below). Works off Google. I have v11 and it does have geocode_address() which obtains the longitude-latitude for a given address. I also came up with a code written by Peter Wayne that derives the distance between two points using the longitude-latitude values. That's all good. But what you and I have presents a single location/single marker on the map. What I need is the map to present a marker for each of the locations in a table (see pic ) and link:

              https://forum.alphasoftware.com/show...hlight=geocode

There are 181 locations. I need this to come up with a method of dividing up these locations between a group of installation teams, and then generate routings.

              Code:
              FUNCTION google_map AS C ( )

' started from Peter Wayne Alpha message board:

              'initial zoom parameters
              	dim vc_zoom as C="8"
              	dim vc_size as C="512"
              	dim vc_size2 as C
              	dim vaddr as C

              ' get the address information
dim vaddr1 as C="1600 Pensylvania Ave"
              	dim vaddr2 as C=""
              	dim vcity as C="Washington"
              	dim vstate as C="DC"

              'derive the address as string
              	locale=stritran(vaddr1," ","+")+","+stritran(vaddr2," ","+")+","+vcity+","+vstate

'make variable for the dialog size presenting the map
              	vc_size2=alltrim(vc_size)+"x"+alltrim(vc_size)

Yes, mine could show more than one..don't know about 181 though !. That might require a wall map!
Are you looking for the best route?

Were the freebie routers of no use Mike?
You might need to optimise the 181 sites and use Zoning. If you don't the outer edges won't get a fair share of the teams, so some form of weighting migh help.
When I did this years ago (on paper), the total distance travelled in a Zone was the key determinant. Getting too and from the Zone was of less importance as that was a given.
