Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

convert free form report option on reports shortcut menu

    hello,

i am trying to figure out what this option is suppose to convert a free form report to. i created a free form report, then selected this convert option and get the message "requires convert free form to layout table report". what does this error message mean?

i looked in the help file and searched this forum but did not see any information to explain what this convert option is for and how it should be used, so i'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

    thank you

    hi,

i still can't figure out what this option is suppose to do. the only thing that i have figured out is that for this option to appear ont he shortcut menu, you have to save the report as a free form report, which i did.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

    thank you

Tracy, this is not an error message. It is not yet available. It may be a future Feature Pack or part of a future release. The only way to currently to create a layout table report is from scratch.

            hi bill,

            i understand your answer.

that just makes it more confusing to someone trying to learn this sortware - to find out that there are options scattered throughout the interface that really don't work currently and may or may not be implemented at some point in the future. i honestly don't understand the point of that.

has software development and q/a changed that much since i retired from it at the beginning of the century - where it is now acceptable to put something into production like that? this is not directed at you, i'm just thinking out loud. hmmmm, i wonder if this is why i still get calls from companies, wanting me to come back and fix something that someone messed up.

what you said probably answers many of the questions that i have posted here about not being able to figure out what an option is suppose to do.

            thank you

That option seems to have appeared in V11. What is your objective?

                tracy,

I think this is the only thing that I have run into that is exposed, yet not available. There may be others, but I don't think that one occurrence counts as the norm.
